Will Ohio's governor ban all open carrying of weapons in Cleveland during RNC week?

Since the latest fatal ambush of police officers in Baton Rouge, this has become a serious possibility.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The president of the Cleveland Police Union says he will ask Ohio’s governor to ban all open carrying of weapons in Cuyahoga County during the week of the Republican National Convention.

This announcement comes after the deadly shootings of officers in Baton Rouge Sunday. The fear is that that unrest will appear at the convention.

The union’s president, Steve Loomis, says lawyers are putting the request together and will send it to the governor’s office, according to FOX8.

Loomis says he is also demanding an end to having officers working solo at intersections as part of the RNC security. He says they are in danger and “at a minimum should be in threes”.

Could it lead to other bannings of open carry?

The obvious danger is if the right to bear arms can be suspended for a week in the area where the RNC is happening because there is the fear that guns in plain sight will cause a problem then the right to bear arms can be suspended in any place for any period of time for any reason.

The head of Cleveland's largest police union is calling on Ohio Gov. John Kasich to temporarily restrict the state's open carry gun laws during this week's Republican National Convention following Sunday's shooting in Louisiana that killed three officers and wounded at least three others.

"We are sending a letter to Gov. Kasich requesting assistance from him. He could very easily do some kind of executive order or something -- I don't care if it's constitutional or not at this point," Stephen Loomis, president of Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association, told CNN. "They can fight about it after the RNC or they can lift it after the RNC, but I want him to absolutely outlaw open-carry in Cuyahoga County until this RNC is over."

CNN has been on this anti open carry jihad for the last two days. They have had a number of current and former LEOs on their program calling for an open carry ban. Now, the president of Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association says he doesn't care about constitutional rights of citizens. The friends of the police state are out in full force after this orchestrated escalation of violence in the past moths.

Note that the irony of a restriction of open carry is that if it is state-wide it will be ignored state-wide and lead to open carry demonstrations. If it is localized (as proposed) then the protests involving open carry will be right at that demarcation line (which is now parts the Cleveland convention center only). Unnecessarily increasing the area in which open carry is banned just creates a huge unnecessary load on law enforcement with additional checkpoints and moves the perceived problem just down the road. Liberal logic at its best.

Another irony is that this is fueled by the fear of armed black people demonstrating during the RNC convention. History repeats itself. May I present to you, the Mulford Act enacted in 1967 under Ronald Reagan during his period as Governor of California.

So much for unrest, chaos, shootings, terrorist attacks and whatnot during the Republican National Convention, somehow justifying the need to restrict the right to bear arms across a US city or county.

Will there be any apologies for wanting to suspend the Constitution?

Of course not. But just wait until the next big thing comes along and the fear mongering hoping to push the -I don't care if it's against the Constitution I'm scaaarrrreeed! translates into -Never let a chance to push the gun control agenda go to waste!- rhetoric will begin again.

So here we are are the start of the DNC and there were exactly ZERO gun related incidents at the RNC. Once again the Liberal Police Chiefs and Union leaders cried wolf.

The Ohio Open Carry Law is still in force and no one can suspend it. Convention is history and the subject is answered and dead. Enough said!
