Visiting Branson area soon

Going to visit the Branson area soon (from KS), and just wanting to check my understanding from what I've read of the laws.

  • Buildings must be posted, any posted building is a "no-go" (universal sign and location at entrances, or "whatever"?). Parking lots are OK, as long as you don't remove from vehicle or "brandish" it.
  • The obvious exclusions are Fed buildings, state buildings, government buildings (local, etc.)
  • Other places are churches or places of worship - no signage required - but they are a "no-go" without obtaining permission first.
  • Gates/entrances of amusement parks - so it's a "no-go" to someplace like Silver Dollar City.
  • Bars, etc. (which I don't go into anyway) or places which derive more than 50% of income from alcohol (not sure how one knows that one)
  • How about "Branson Belle"? I see gambling casinos, etc. are "no-go", but last I remember, Branson Belle was a food excursion only.
  • I recall something about "no-go" on buses and bus terminals - again without gaining permission.

So - that seems to be the general points I've seen - anything I've missed? Anything notable or law changes in the last few months, etc.?

Also - what are the laws regarding folding knife blade lengths? I carry one or two different knives, and they are 4" or under in blade length - legal to carry in MO?

Look at handgunlaw.us and it will give you all the information you need for all the states. Enjoy Branson.

I was at silver dollar city couple of years ago, and saw that they sold holsters. They weren't sure that they had one that would fit my revolver; so they asked if I had it in the car so I could bring it into the park!. I was shocked, and unfortunately, didn't have the revolver with me at that time.

I worked at Disneyland during my college years, and I know that no weapons were ever allowed there, except for secret service, some foreign security service types, and of course me and my fellow jungle cruisers: (Smith & Wesson model 64 .38 Special +P - stainless steel K Frame)

I was quite pleased to learn That silver dollar city would allow a weapon in their theme park.

Checked there as one of the first locations. However, I have found that it hasn't always been up-to-date, sometimes being weeks or months behind current state legislation (bills passed, signed, and in force). We had changes in KS (actually, changes almost every legislative session the last few years), and those aren't always reflected at handgunlaw.us.

One thing that isn't reflected on handgunlaw.us that I've yet to see is approved and signed legislation that is not yet in effect. Things aren't always in effect immediately just because the gov signs it, and it would be nice to have a "heads up" of things that might change within the next couple of weeks or month or so - that's another aspect I'm seeking. Anything going into effect within the next few weeks that alters current law?

One could argue that how would one get the "real scoop" on a forum, but there are a number of those who frequent the forums who are instructors, and I really pay attention to those who back up their corrections/statements with links back to the state's website of laws/statutes online. Unfortunately, wording of the laws can be confusing, and it's nice to have someone say "this is what it says", followed by links to actual law. For instance, at first, there were about a dozen or so "no-go" basic locations in the state of KS. This was changed a couple years ago so that now it's a "must post", and if not posted, you're good to go. However, they only reworded one sentence in the statute, leaving the list of a dozen or more places in the statute. I had to read it 3-4 times before I could agree with the statements of KS instructors. And still used the internet "wayback" machine to see what the wording WAS, and what it now said to compare.

Here's the MO Revised Statute reference Link Removed. You're good to go with a 4" blade.

Thank you. Didn't see any reference to blade, but 4" generally seems to be the limit for a folder that's "concealed".

I ask because KS has some ridiculous knife laws. It's illegal to carry "with the intent" to use it for bodily harm. Gee, I didn't intend to use it for that purpose when I put it in my pocket - but I sure will use it with intent if I need to for the purpose of self defense. Ridiculous Catch-22 wording and implementation of the law. The legislature was working on this during the latest legislative session, but I don't think anything got to the gov's desk.

KSShooter,

Can you tell me what I am missing by the way of Law changes in KS? I don't know of any. As for updating before a law goes into effect I use a judgement call on that. To many people just see what they want to see and even if I put an "Effective Date" on a new law people miss it and to do that the old law that is still in effect is no longer there. I can't help the way laws are written. I just report what they are and especially what those in charge of the firearm laws and issuing permit/licenses are stating even though sometimes they don't word it very well. I would also like to know what I was months behind on. I can't find anything on the KS page that was month out of date before I updated it. Thank you and Stay safe,

If I remember correctly, changes to these types of laws in MO go into effect on a certain day of the year. That day is the same day every year. I thought It was sometime in August.

The day is August 28th. Except when the bill has an emergency clause, then it becomes law when signed by the govenor.
