VA House panel rejects felons' rights bill

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell's plea for legislation to automatically restore the civil rights of nonviolent felons has been rejected by fellow Republicans in the House of Delegates.

Automatic restoration of rights may not be a good idea. Me thinks that having to ask for your rights to be restored is a better track to follow as the requester will acknowledge that his or her action alone caused them to surrender their rights in the first place. This will enhance a sense of humility in the felon which may have been missing when he or she committed the act that cost them their rights. When I say humility I do not mean humiliate although a bit of self incurred humiliation has a remarkable cleansing agent associated with it! How do we know this?
