How can one go about finding a local shooting coach for competition shooting?

Also, if you belong to a firing range, talk to some of the locals and find out where/when competitions are held. Go to a few, talk to the people. That will be your best way to get information.

Join a local gun club that is NRA affiliated. The one I belong to has NRA certified instructors, members who are also willing to coach you and so on. You'll never regret belonging. Check the NRA site for affiliated Clubs and Ranges as mentioned above.
