Oregon, Texas officials warn White House against enforcing new gun regulations Read

State officials in Oregon and Texas are vowing to fight back against any attempt by the federal government to impose new gun control laws.

The warnings come as President Obama prepares to unveil a "comprehensive" plan to address gun violence, based on the recommendations from the Vice President Biden-led task force. The plan is expected to include a call for legislation to ban assault weapons as well as a variety of executive actions.

But in Oregon, Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller wrote a letter to Biden Monday saying his department will not enforce any new gun laws it considers unconstitutional.
Mueller said politicians are "attempting to exploit the deaths of innocent victims" by supporting laws that would harm law-abiding Americans. The sheriff said he took an oath to support the Constitution, and laws preventing citizens from owning certain semi-automatic firearms and ammunition magazines would violate their rights.
"We are Americans," Mueller wrote. "We must not allow, nor shall we tolerate, the actions of criminals, no matter how heinous the crimes, to prompt politicians to enact laws that will infringe upon the liberties of responsible citizens who have broken no laws."

This is what I found this morning with regard to our Senators--both Democrats.

Link Removed

1. Max Baucus, Montana (NRA Rating: A+). Baucus appeared to oppose any federal action on gun law reform, saying in a statement that “Before passing new laws, we need a thoughtful debate that respects responsible, law-abiding gun owners in Montana instead of a one-size-fits all directives from Washington.”

...

7. Jon Tester, Montana (NRA Rating: A-). Tester refused to take a position, saying “As Congress considers ways to address gun violence, we must look at all aspects of this issue. Our priority must be keeping all Americans–especially our kids–safe. I will look closely at all proposals on the table, but we must use common sense and respect our Constitution.”

Regardless of party, candidates in Montana have to run on a pro 2nd Amendment platform or they won't get elected or re-elected.

I think Tester's statement is a bit soft. I still admire the man, but we'll see.

Not Enforcing Law - Precedence set by Obama & Justice Department

Especially for anyone who has a problem with law enforcement officers refusing to enforce unconstitutional laws. Consider that our illustrious president and his justice department have repeatedly refused to enforce laws enacted by congress!

Following are just a sample of laws that the president/justice department have not enforced and/or told others to not obey:

  • DOMA, Defense of Marriage Act – Justice Department publicly stated they will not enforce
  • Immigration laws – various laws have not enforced by Justice Department and they have refused to provide support for state law enforcement trying to enforce immigration laws
  • President/Justice Department formally “requested” defense contractors, prior to the November elections, to NOT notify employees of potential layoffs, as required by law, associated with sequestration (massive defense budget cuts that will occur unless congress passes new funding). In addition, the contractors were told that the U.S. Government will pay legal fees incurred defending against legal action for violating law that requires for prior notification (90 days?).
