Rather then use nails through the horizontal wood - something as simple as some skateboard tape or similar grip tape should work fine.
It should barely be an issue of falling out. since you know its there and would probably be removing the pistol to take with you each day. if it comes out who cares.. so long as the gun comes free of the holster first heh.
You could also put another horizontal piece below the pistol to extend out a bit and then use the whole set up between a wall and bed, the extra horizontal piece would prevent pinching the pistol/holster between bed/wall.
For the recliner - make a U shape that goes over the arm (depending on type of recliner?) it should go far enough down that it holds the weight. again grip tape the sides that touch the recliners fabric. You can cover the top of the U shape with some foam and fabric to make it less rubbing on your arm.
