Held captive in one of Mexico's most infamous prisons, Marine Veteran Jon Hammar is seen chained to a bed. Let us not forget our veteran who has been held since this past August. Mexico has steadfastly refused to listen to American official demands that he be released. This US Marine was cleared through American customs to transport his rifle and when he declared it at Mexican customs was arrested and detained on the spot by Mexican Authorities

ok when you leave the US nobody clears you or checks you for weapons, also US border patrol cannot dictate to the Mexico authorities what to do.


Before you cross in to Mexican territory there is a huge sign...indicating that it is a Federal crime (in Mexico) to transport a weapon or ammunition of any type in to Mexican Territory.

As you can see the sign here..it is in plain English. at this point he could of turned back and not cross. But he made the choice to continue.

I feel for the marine that he got caught...but he did break the law in another country.
 
Back in the 60s/70s this was happening all the time. No big news then. Not all with guns, different charges.
It was so bad the US Military would make weekly trips to pick up the guys they
could get out without to much trouble.
