If this was just about cops having to dominate, that would be one thing. In this instance, it is symptomatic of a far more dangerous problem, and most of us have already posted about it - the NYC Government is determined to dominate everything for the "good" of its citizens. DeBlasio has made it clear that Bloomberg didn't go far enough to make this happen, and he is determined to give the rest of the country a blueprint for total government control. He is all about the "heavy hand of government," and the first place that shows up is with law enforcement. People have to fear the police; once that is established, fear of the rest of the government naturally follows. He is going to try to turn NYC into a stepford place. I have lived in countries in which the "heavy hand of government" was the norm. No thanks.

The "hardened criminal" in this story has a son that is an attorney. I hope he sues the NYPD, NYC and everyone in this story and put them all in the poor house!!!

Hmmm, Vision Zero in Sweden was a movement to try to get zero fatalities in traffic accidents.

This is an excerpt from Wikipedia: Vision Zero is a road traffic safety project started in Sweden in 1997 which aims to achieve a highway system with no fatalities or serious injuries in road traffic. A core principle of the vision is that 'Life and health can never be exchanged for other benefits within the society' rather than the more conventional approach where a monetary value is placed on life and health which is then used with a Benefit-cost ratio evaluation before investing money in the road network to decrease risk

Now, apparently in NYC, Vision Zero means, beat the scheisse out of persons jaywalking. I'm thinking it isn't going to be as effective as Sweden's initiative.
