Gun Trust Question

I am in the process of setting up a gun trust to purchase items that need the ATF tax stamp, and I was considering transferring my handguns and long guns that don't require the tax stamp into the trust. Is that permitted, and if so, is there any advantages/disadvantages to doing that?

I have a Gun Trust that was set up by Apple Law Firm, LLC. I was advised to keep the NFA items in the trust only and keep all other firearms out of it - which I have done. I also set up a separate bank account and use those funds to buy NFA items with. I also keep a little bit more $$ in the NFA bank account as well seeing that my son is a co-trustee and will end up with the whole thing when I'm not here.
