I've had a concealed carry permit for about 4 years now. In that time I've had half-dozen LEO encounters while in my car. Each time I presented the DL along with my carry permit and never have I had a negative encounter.

In fact, a few months after obtaining my permit I was pulled over for expired tags. The officer asked if I was carrying. I responded that I was not. He asked "Why not?". I naively related that I had been only going from home to work and didn't think I'd need it. He replied "I've been carrying a gun for 20 years and I dont know when I'll need it, what makes you think you'll know when you need it?". Point taken: I've carried daily since.
 
Half a dozen traffic stops in 4 years? You might need to drive a little better...

I recently had a very similar conversation with an officer who asked why I didn't carry my weapon at work. In my experience our local law enforcement officers are some of the biggest supporters of the right to carry.
 
Great to hear about more law enforcement officers who are good people. Thanks for sharing your encounters.

Now if only the anti-cops would stop refusing to acknowledge that there are tons of great cops out there.

I've had my CPL since June, 2008. In that time I've had half-dozen LEO encounters while in my car. Each time I presented my DL and said nothing about my CPL nor the gun I was legally carrying and never have I had a negative encounter. During traffic stops I have treated officers with courtesy, respect and professionalism and that is what I have received in return.

Absolutely correct, I am much more conscious of my speed relative to the speed limit recently.

I've been stopped once in the past 20 years and that was for doing 41 in a 30 zone. I beat the ticket in court as well. I've only had one LEO interaction while carrying and it wasn't in a vehcile. I didn't disclose since I have no obligation to do so and I feel this is the best way to go.

There are tons of unloaded guns out there. I'd probably say the majorityof the 300+ million guns in this country are unloaded at any given time.

Since I can't tell at a glance though, I still observe rule one Every. Single. Time. I pick up a gun.

So you always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction then.

I as well treat all guns as loaded (or kept pointed in a safe direction), but I do not treat people the way I treat guns. I have no universal way of treating humans like I do for some inanimate objects.
 
For the folks who stated that they dont present their CPL/CCW or whatever your state calls it, you may want to double check the laws in your state. Concealed carry laws change occasionally and many states have enacted a "must present" law. NC is one of those states - it was made very clear to us that not revealing your legally permitted status during LEO interactions could lead to the revocation of your permit.

Yeah, out of 49 states that allow some form of Concealed Carry 10 require you to inform. That said, I am 100% in agreement w/ your statement that permit holders need to be up to date on their state laws

As an NRA instructor they make the rules that I use to train people. Everyone has an opinion I guess. The NRA's three basic rules are easy to teach and easy for students to remember.
 
Wow. You guys will argue about everything and anything. Even when the things you are arguing about are exactly the same.
