Firing Squad...

I guess it all boils down to your perspective. Was the killing righteous/necessary or was it vengeful/unwarranted.

When I killed the feral dog I looked the parents in the eye & told them that I was sorry for what happened to their boy but it wouldn't happen to another.
Would have made it better if I had said "I am sorry to say I killed the dog"? Were they wrong because they were happy to hear it? Would it have made it any less necessary?

You said you were/are in the Army. Are you/have you served in a combat MOS? If you have I really dont know where you are coming from. You would know full well that level esprit de corps & commitment all the soldiers have & the notion of duty, honor, country as well as righteous kills. We do these things not just to thump our chests (thats part of it too) but to desensitize ourselves so that when the moment comes when we have to kill we do so without hesitation or remorse.

Its ironic that those who can not or will not act always stand in judgement of those who do what is necessary.

You assume much. I spent 12 years as a 13B10/20 I’ve also been on both sides of the gun as a civilian and I’m pleased to report that the 3 DGUs I’ve been involved in resulted in no shots fired. I also have several years experience in the medical field as an EMT, a Medical Admin Specialist and an RMA. Being involved W/ death is not a new experience for me but, again, it’s not an experience I seek out.

It’s been my experience that people that talk the most about having been knee deep in the poop, haven’t been As a matter of fact one of the baddest assed individuals I ever met was the janitor in my elementary school he fought in North Africa, he fought in Italy and he fought in Europe and he talked, in very general terms, about some of the place he’d seen and about taking some Germans prisoner but when I asked him if he’d ever killed anyone all he said was ‘oh, let’s not talk about that” and changed the subject.

When I run into someone on the web who’s boasting of his/her exploits I usually assume it’s false.

I think you have this pegged Treo.

Most fellow vets I know do NOT brag about killing.

History shows that most soldiers that do enjoy killing, eagerly (NAZIs) volunteered for execution squads.

They would also be the ones eager to "Mop Up" and bayonet the wounded on the battlefields.

I have little doubt that you two have me beating my kids & pulling wings off flies by now...

This is my final word on this matter.

Just to make sure, I reread this whole thread & at no point on this thread or this forum (or in my life for that matter) have I bragged (ore even mentioned ) about being "knee deep in the poop". I did mention on another thread that I have been to Panama & Irag & have seen death. For all you know I was the company cook.
This & every other assertion about me (and seconded by Doc) has been a fabrication. If you are going to invent facts about me on this thread where does that leave us for having an honest conversation?

I was raised to tell the truth & do the right thing & have lived my life doing just that. In the past I have been ridiculed & berated by lesser men for this. Now the lesser man have returned.

Oh & Treo, I dont know what a 13B is but I believe 13's are Arty. All the cannon cockers I ever met were great to drink beer with but didnt know a thing about cold steel...

Now I have said my piece & have nothing further to say to you two.

I don't know about that. I don't like to see sadistic behavior being directed toward anyone or anything, but I could have been on that firing squad without a doubt. Like I said before, killing that bastard would be protecting my wife and kids. I do agree with what you said about the combat vets though, and I don't blame them for not wanting to talk about their experiences with people who have not lived through the same thing.

I think there's a difference between 'I could have done it' and "I'd count it an honor" (paraphrasing in both instances). I think I could have been on the firing squad too. I don't know, I've never killed a human being in cold blood but I most emphatically would never volunteer for the "honor".

Working in the medical field I’ve seen people die. I’ve been working on people and had them die on me. And I have developed somewhat of a thick skin WRT death but I still don’t think I could just blow off some thing like that

there's a big difference in "killing in cold blood" and doing the world a service. Thank you mister firing squad member! good shot!

The bad guy wanted to be put to death by firing squad (hell the bastard even requested that particular method) Lucky him I guess, bet his victim(s) never got to request how they wanted to die at his freakin hands!!!

A chosen few of our good guy's made his wish come true. Thanks to all that were involved in putting this murderer down and thank you murderer for requesting to die by firing squad. I say this because I am specualting you saved the tax payers many dollars in Dr. fee's, etc... for leathal injection or some other drawn out method.

I only wish I could have seen the process myself.
