Cooper said that a .22 spitzer, 40 grs, 2200 fps sufficed for power.

because of "hydrostatic shock". He also said that it would penetrate any "practicable armor" and still provide adequate power on the other side of said armor. This is in the chapter on the Husquavarna gas op 9mm, from COOPER ON HANDGUNS. :), Funny, then, how the shorty AR, with a 60 gr softpoint, still having 2200 fps left at 200 yds, is a mere 'poodle shooter" (as Cooper opined numberous times). WHERE would you rather have a failure to stop, at 200 yds or at axe swinging range, hmm? If you are head one prone, how many people do you think could hit you at 200 yds (before you could flee the area, or hit them again)? :) Sort of had his priorities backwards, don't you think?

All you have to do, in order to make an M4 EXTREMELY effective on men, is load it with 60 gr, deep-penetratng Nosler Partition softpoints. You aint in the military and you don't need 1000 such rds. You need at most 200 of them, and this includes zeroing the rifle with them and testing the mags for reliable feeding. :) In fact, for most hits, (being peripheral, the way combat hits on men mostly ARE) the 3/4" wide hole torn in bicep, calf, buttock, etc, by such a 223 sp will be MORE effective than the same hit by a typical 308 ball rd, which simply pokes a .30 cal hole thru such narrow expanses of flesh. You lose a lot of blood out of such a wound, really quickly, and it hurts badly, which sort of forces the guy to NOTICE it (and freak out and quit). :)

I think you'd have trouble convincing a jury you were in fear for your life at 200 yards...........

m193 from whites of their eyes to 200. mk232 mod0 farther. BDC600 reticle with both rounds plugged-in to spot-on software and printed-out. I won't depend on a single sidearm for self defense. Life is good.
