[h=1]Michigan: Bill to Repeal State Ban on Short-Barreled Rifles and Shotguns Signed into Law by Governor Snyder[/h] Posted on March 27, 2014

Today, Governor Rick Snyder (R) signed Senate Bill 610 into law, making it Public Act 63 of 2014. SB 610, sponsored by state Senator Michael Green (R-31), repeals Michigan’s ban on the private ownership of short-barreled rifles and shotguns. Short-barreled rifles and shotguns are already strictly regulated under the National Firearms Act, requiring their buyers to undergo a background check, pay a $200 federal tax and register these firearms with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. SB 610 conforms Michigan law to federal law and aligns Michigan with a large majority of states that already allow their residents to possess these firearms. Governor Snyder’s signature makes SB 610 effective immediately.
The NRA thanks our countless members for their grassroots advocacy and support, members of the Michigan Legislature for their dedication to the Second Amendment and Governor Snyder for his signature on this legislation. Special thanks to the bill sponsor, Senator Michael Green, and Attorney General Bill Schuette, who were critical in seeing this bill through from introduction to its enactment.
