While I am not currently a corrections officer, I was one in 1968 and 69, USDB, Fort Leavenworth, Ks. (US Army Military Police Correctional Specialist) and I carried after I got out for many years due to the threats I received. All this was before concealed carry was legal. I later became a deputy sheriff and carried then. Now with the CWP I carry every where it's legal.

How do you guys always carry? First off, always would mean in your case, while not at work. Still another problem, your parking lot at work is also a gun prohibited zone, correct? That means you cannot carry to or from work. My wife works at a prison, and she cannot have any weapons in her car.

Maybe in Nebraska it is, but here we are allowed to secure a pistol in our car as long as it is out of sight. So I carry all the time when not inside the prison. Also we are considered Law enforcement for the purpose of carry when off duty, so no need for a permit.

I'm a North Carolina State Correctional Officer. I carry off duty as much as possible. However, in North Carolina, even though we're Sworn and certified officers, we're not considered peace officers. So we don't have any arrest powers. That being said, we need to have Concealed Handgun Permits to carry just like anybody else. As far as work is concerned, we can bring our gun to work, but you first need to get written permission. Then you need to have it locked up in your car (and of course lock up the car). When going home, if you brought your gun, you can go and put it on, and go home with it. No problem. However your still subject to the state laws just like any other civilian is. Personally I do have permission, but I usually don't bring it to work. Only because it takes too much time. Our duty pistol is the Smith and Wesson M & P full size .40 caliber. We only get those when we're on outside patrol, or when we go on a hospital run. I'd like to see things change for the better out here. I'm trying to talk to some politicians about it. Hopefully someone will listen.
