ammo question

Can anyone tell me why the price of .556 ammo is cheaper than .223??

Availability?

.223 is not a military caliber. The government has been buy huge blocks of all available ammo from all manufacturers for the last year or so. 5.56 is obviously a military caliber used world wide by NATO and US forces. World wide the supply of 5.56,.45, 9mm and .40 have been in short supply for civilian market for a long time.

Same reason 9mm is cheaper than .380. It's produced in much higher quantities. Laws of economics.

Now that makes a lot of sense!! I should have thought of .556 being military there would be a larger supply. Thanks much
