Ak 47 question

Just picked up a Romanian ak. At the butt of the stock there is a hole with metal plate that swings in and a spring that sits in the hole all the way through the stock? What is it for out cleaning stuff in there extra rounds functionality??????

That's where the cleaing kit goes. Not sure if your AK came with one but the kit comes in a small metal tube.
