have to agree with you kerb. with training comes confidence. I usually carry a Glock 26 or Glock 27 chambered and ready to rock and roll. no manual safety. A good holster protects the trigger. and having practiced drawing the gun many hundreds of times there's no issue.

People need to understand a fast draw does not come from fast hands. It comes from reduction of unnecessary movement. And that is achieved only with extensive practice using proper draw-stroke. There are proper and numerous improper ways to draw a gun. Chambering a round on the draw-stroke represents unnecessary movement. When the gun clears the holster it is rotated to be in firing position from the hip. If the perp was within 20 feet you will never chamber the round in time. He will be fast. 1.5 seconds. He will attack from a blind side. you will be caught behind the reactionary curve. Consider this gospel in personal protection training. then again, what do I know. I was trained by Mas Ayoob at LFI.

Being a graduate of FrontSight's 4 day defensive handgun class, I always carry ready to shoot.
One in the chamber, full mag and 2 spares. One and one-half second from draw to two in the chest.
If that doesn't do? One to the ocular-cranial cavity (between the eye brows and mustache).

Always +1 with chamber ready for action when needed. If BG surprises or is rushing you, there is good chance you don't have time to rack slide and you will be toast Train and practice.

Yes, every gun I own has one in the tube. In an emergency situation you are not going to remember to chamber a round. You are going to be in a life threatening situation and drop the hammer on an empty chamber and then you are going to die by their gun, or, by your gun being used on you. If you do not feel confident enough in your skills to feel safe carrying with one in the tube, you should really get some more training. I carry a GLOCK 23 which is a 40 S&W and as you know, it does not have a "safety", your finger is the safety. I do also carry "sometimes" a 24/7 G2 45ACP and it actually has a FP break away safety. I feel less safe carrying this than the GLOCK. I like knowing that if I feel as though I need to pull my weapon, it will fire. Period.
