I recently was reading the requirements for Delaware residents and all I can say is wow!
I have been researching some different state requirements and it's crazy how much they vary.
Here is my understanding of Delaware's requirements:
Required:
Application published at least once, at least 10 days before filing application, affidavit from newspaper company, newspaper selection must have circulation of at least 35% of the population of your zip code, using full name and address. ($74)
Reference questionnaires completed by 5 citizens from the county you reside. (Time, time, time!)
Notarized application
Two passport photos taken within 6 mos of app ($15)
Fingerprints ($69)
After application is approved, you must complete an Approved Gun Course within 90 days and return a notarized certificate ($150 - 250 plus at least one full day of your weekend if not two days)
Only valid for 3 years...
In contrast, Virginia allows you to take a safety training course online ( Link Removed $79 + 25% off with coupon code 28STATES) and apply through the mail.
This was my understanding based on my own research, however, residents from Delaware have posted on here that this is not the case. That if you are a resident of Delaware you must have a Delaware permit to carry. I find it very confusing with all the information out there that says Delaware honors the non-resident VA permit, but no where does it specify only for non-residents of Delaware...Please do your own research (always good advice anyway!)***Residents of Delaware can skip these extreme requirements and carry legally with a Virginia non-resident permit. Plus the VA non-resident permit is valid in 28 states (hence the coupon code..)***
I'd love to hear of other states that make it especially difficult to obtain your CCW permit.
What are your experiences?
