Senate Bills 963, 964, 965 & 966, passed unanimously in the Senate, reclassify air guns w/rifled barrels from firearms to pneumatic guns, meaning that we should be able to buy them online once again and it will not require a pistol purchase permit or CPL to buy an air pistol with a rifled barrel. You should even be able to buy the Gamo Whisper and similar air guns with integral suppressors without any trouble.

Also, Senate Bills 789/790 are also reported out of committee and on their way to the House floor for a vote. These bills will do the following:

* Abolish county concealed weapon licensing boards.
* Transfer the duties of the county boards to county clerks with some duties going
to the courts.
* Require the MSP to conduct investigations of CPL applicants as to eligibility.
* Give civil immunity to clerks and law enforcement entities if a CPL holder later
commits a crime or negligent act.
* Allow an applicant for a CPL renewal to certify that he or she has completed
educational and firing range requirements (and the county clerk could not
otherwise require verification of the statements in the certification).
* Decrease license and renewal fees (from $105 to $90).
* Require each county to establish a concealed pistol licensing fund.
* Allow county clerks to take fingerprints of applicants.
* Establish a hearing process for suspensions and revocations.
* Allow the subject of a PPO for domestic violence or stalking to receive a CPL
unless the order includes a restriction that the applicant is not allowed to purchase
or possess a firearm.
* Change Michigan's OBLIGATION TO IMMEDIATELY NOTIFY police regarding our carry status upon being stopped to a RESPONSIBILITY TO DISCLOSE UPON REQUEST.

HB 789/790 are tie barred, meaning that 789 must pass in order for 790 to pass, and it will be worth your while to read the House summary of the bill, http://www.legislature.mi.gov/…/…/2013-HLA-0789-EC523094.pdf.

Call your legislators in Lansing and tell them to support these bills!

Air gun package of bills passed in the House with changes, Senate concurred with the changes, order it enrolled with immediate effect. On its way to Snyder for his signature.

Waiting for action on SB 789/790, CPL reform. Will report back as soon as info becomes available.

Air gun reclassification vetoed after repub leadership only conveyed 4 of the 7 bills in the package to Snyder. No word on the CPL reform yet.

Who vetoed it? Snyder? The governor?

Yes, the Guv. Snyder. We're waiting to see if he is going to sign or veto CPL reform, SB 789. Personally, I'm not holding my breath. Snyder isn't a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights in the first place, and he received financial support during his last run from Bloomberg, in addition to Bloomberg hosting a fundraiser for him.
