A proposal that seeks to do away with local government’s power to decide whether to allow firearms in public parks advanced to a full Senate vote on Tuesday despite opposition from the governor.
In most cases local governments in TN don't either. At one point carry in parks at any level was legal in TN. To be able to get the bill passed to allow park carry a comprise was worked out allowing local governments to "opt out" if they wanted to.
Tennessee has recently improved a number of gun-related laws. The removal of the local opt out for park carry is the next step. It is by no means a done deal though.
