Yes, private industry will keep our water sources free of pollution, keep our brokers and securities dealers from picking their client's pockets, keep our food supply from being contaminated.
I can't wait untill the day there is no government getting in the way of us privateers.
Aarrr! Someone killed my parrot with poisonous pet treats!
Right, it was government regulation that caused Hooker Chemical to create the worst environmental disaster in the US. And it was government regulation that caused Allied Chemical to turn Onondaga lake into the richest deposit of mercury in the US.
Private industry has one objective - make money today regardless of the cost tomorrow.
It is irrational in the extreme to even think that a large, modern society can be secure, safe, and healthy, and even prosperous (governments build highways, for example) without government. The "individual liberty and initiative" canard doesn't hack it anymore, if it ever did. Most people will take the path of least resistance every time and sacrifice the future for today's enjoyment--carpe diem. The private sector (not just here but all over the world) caused global warming and will not spend one dime to fix it absent enormous pressure from government. The day of the industrious American pioneer thriving through hard work, self initiative and virtuous living with only occasional exposure to the government down at
"the county seat" is a thing of the past.
Bring on the "socialist," "communist," and "liberal" labels in all their forms. They're mildly comical.
...A simple google search would have answered that question...
I don't believe the Federal Government has any business sticking it's nose into the education system. If you look at history, prior to Carter's introduction of the Department of Education, the US educational performance levels were much, much higher than they are today. After the creation of the DoE, things started going rapidly downhill, and have continued t do so right to the current day. There is nothing the federal government can do that private industry can't do faster, better, and cheaper. This is why Libertarianism will always beat Socialism.
The federal government, by way of the US constitution, has two jobs. Interstate commerce, and foreign policy. Anything beyond taht is outside it's defined limits...

I shudder to think what kind of dangerous drugs would be on the market as well, for another example, if it weren't for agencies like the FDA. Big government: the solution to this country's ills. Civilization is too important to trust to unregulated individuals, however well that may (supposedly) have worked in the 1800s, and education based on rigorous national standards and curricula is one way to keep us civilized, or semi-civilized at least.
