ALBANY - Link Removed Friday shot down a Paterson administration gun-safety proposal that would let the Link Removed train firearm owners.
"We told him we wouldn't do that," Silver told the Daily News.
Paterson's gun-safety bill contains a provision requiring buyers of guns to first take a firearms-safety course.
The News reported Friday that a clause tucked away in the bill says the program must meet or exceed the standards of "the home firearms safety course as approved by" the NRA or another course approved by the state police.
Silver said "to memorialize or recognize [the NRA] in legislation as the expert is not something we want to do."
He said the state should allow many groups to become certified to provide training. Paterson's gun bill has not been introduced.
