Inaccurate info on VA permit page

That info page is WAY out of date. The resident permits have not required fingerprints in a while and the procedures for most counties have changed. You should check with your county/independent city to make sure you have what you need but generally you only need:

1. The fee
2. The application either signed in front of the clerk or notarized.
3. Your certificate of training (or statement that you meet the training requirement).

You should contact your county to find out the fee (though most charge the maximum allowed which is $45). Loudoun also has a supplement sheet that's not in the State application PDF file.

Yeah, the bottom line is that applicants should visit their county's websites to determine the requirements for applying. People who have their licenses already know...it's the people that don't that might get the wrong information from the VA permit page. It may be better to remove the page(s) if they aren't going to be kept up to date.

The official STATE POLICE Virginia page is FINE. The only problem is THIS site doesn't apparently keep pace with the state changes in law.

In violation of Virginia state law?:

Actually, it's not really. The state form says "attach an extra sheet" for the answers to some of the questions. This appears just to be the "extra" sheet preprinted with sections for each of questions that the state form requires extra info for. I suppose you could argue that any old sheet of paper qualifies, but using Loudoun's version keeps things neat and organized.

Sounds OK, then. Thanks for the info!
