Yet another holster question...

I am looking to get another concealment holster, but looking for a thumb break.
I currently use an IWB leather without thumb break.
I once borrowed a US issued pancake w/tb that was very comfortable. I have not been able to find one for purchase that is the same.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Can't recommend one since I've never used a thumb break. Just curious why you want a thumb break. Have you had bad luck with other holsters retaining your gun properly?

OWB holster

I have an OWB Desantis Scabbard that I like that has a thumb break, all leather.

I have an AKAR with thumb break for my Bersa Thunder PRO HC 40SW, all leather and I love it. The thumb break gives me a better sense of security and with the practice I did I'm very fast getting it out.

Crossbreed's in-the-waistband holster is the most comfortable I've ever used. Each one is custom produced based on your gun. The "combat cut" option removes some of the leather behind the gun grip, which may sacrifice some comfort, but prevents the thumb from snagging the leather when drawing. Personally, I did not go with the "combat cut", and have no thumb snagging problems while drawing.

The company allows you to order w/o the "combat-cut", and if you're having thumb issues on the draw w/i a two week trial period, you can send it back and they will make the "combat cut" for you. You will only be out the S&H (about $15).

N8 Tactical makes a similar IWB holster. Very comfortable as well, but comes with only one clip for the belt.

Either way, these two companies should be your first look.

Good luck

Last I saw, hybrid holsters don't offer a thumb break (which is a strap that secures the pistol in it's holster).
The OP was pretty clear in stating that he wants one. Not sure how a crossbreed is going to help him.

Thanks I'll check them out.

I have in the past at home only luckily. Usually while laying in bed reading to the kids.
I am also very active with the kids and would prefer to have the thumb break so as the roughhousing does not have to be limited to home. I am limited how active I feel I can safely be wile at parks etc.

Thanks for the links and ideas.
The one I borrowed I was quite proficient with but have not ever even found a comparable knock off.

The government issue pancake holster for these 1911s was the best I've ever found and would like to fine one or a close match.
I carry a 5" 1911 45 so the weight is a factor. and just in case it helps to compare to your experiences I carry at 4:00.

Thanks for the input but the leather cut is not the issue here. as you may have read above the thumb break is a form of securement for the firearm to be retained in the holster during acrobatics, named as such for the release to draw you will generally knock the snap open with you thumb as you reach for your side arm

I happen to like leather for CCW EDC. I found STONER HOLSTERS (Middletown Ohio, 513-424-3800) at a gun show last year and asked if they do custom holsters. They cut their own leather and Jeff told me he can cut anything I want.
His stock holster has a shield on one side to keep the upper from contacting the body. He offered it in left or right hand versions, which means shield on one side OR the other. He offered it in IWB or OWB, which means clip on one side OR the other. He also offers the option of a SS spring to hold the holster open for ease of re-holstering.
I told him that I wanted one with belt-clip holders on BOTH sides so I can carry IWB or OWB. I also wanted a shield on BOTH sides so I could carry on the hip with the grip back, or behind my right kidney with the grip forward. I also wanted the spring hold-open. He said he’s never done one like that but was willing to do it.
All those options added up, it cost me $90. Jeff makes his holsters for any make/model pistol. I really like it and use it every day.
I’m 5’8” and weigh about 150, I carry full size 1911’s, a Compact Officer or an EMP and they all fit nicely in that one holster.
The pics show both clips installed on the holster, which I did for this set of pics. I normally only have one clip installed since carrying IWB, having 2 clips installed is uncomfortable so I keep the extra in the drawer as a spare. Also, with IWB, _I_ don't feel the need for any kind of thumb break security. If someone tackles me and tries to wrestle my piece away, I have a quick opening knife I can draw/open with my off hand and cut the crep outta the thug. And I won't stop SLASHING until he is hamburger....

if you want IWB holster with Thumb-Break.... try this.... I can tell you for certain that these are first class, and as smooth of a draw that's possible.

Gun Leather, Concealment and Cowboy holsters, Azle, TX.

good luck

Thanks for the input but unfortunately it states right on their site they do not and will not do thumb break holsters.
