Yellowstone National Park Contingency Plans

Of late, numerous stories have come out alleging that the Yellowstone caldera is in imminent danger of erupting. This has been tagged as a conspiracy theory and mostly laughed off as such. I saw a couple of videos that said this was not a conspiracy theory and that the government has tried to cover up all stories about an eruption. Just for curiosity's sake, I started looking into this possibility and was quite confused with the information available on the internet. Now we all know that information from the internet is the absolute truth (snicker, snicker). There are many stories denying the possible eruption for many years yet and that the USGS is not hiding any information from the populace. Today, I found an article from Turner Radio Network which, if true, disputes any government denials. "The Afrikaaner" newspaper in South Africa reports that the African National Congress (ANC) has received a request from the U. S. government to be part of a U. S. disaster management plan where South Africa would be paid $ 10 billion a year for ten years. The plan would be for temporary housing for millions of Americans in South Africa , built if the Yellowstone super volcano erupts. Other countries that will participate in the plan include Brazil, Argentina and Australia. A spokesman for the South African Department of Foreign Affairs said that South Africa "will not be part of the plan because there is a risk that millions of white Americans can be sent to our country in an emergency situation and we consider that a threat to black national culture and identity." The South African government has "sympathy for the American Challenge with Yellowstone, but we have our own challenges in South Africa." They also said, "It will destabilize the country and may even bring back apartheid. South Africa is not for sale."

I don't know how many members on here live out in that area. If any, maybe they can add or take away information from these stories. Personally, I don't care to go to any of those countries that these deals are being made with. So there, we now have a new conspiracy (?) theory to massage. I have my tinfoil helmet ready but I am not packing any bags.

I go to Yellowstone every year a couple of times to fish. I know the area very well and have shared time in a cabin with a geology professor friend of mine. If the whole caldera blows it would be FAR larger than any eruption in recorded history. By more than 10X. It would change the world as we know it, not just the western US. That's the bad news. The good news is that it is probably more than 50,000 years into the future and maybe further. It certainly is NOT in any way shape or form an imminent threat. As I recall the eruptions have been about 700,000 years apart(more or less) and we are fine for ours and our great great great (etc) grand childrens lives.

I'd put this one away as far as a worry.

Like one already said...imminent danger in a geological sense can be thousands and thousands of years away or we could get hit by an asteroid next year. I guess I am saying....don't worry about it!

The government can't make healthcare work, how in hell do they think they could transport "millions" of people to Africa? And would South Africa be more accepting if they were sent a mixed bag of Americans in stead of only "white" ones? I have more to worry about than a volcano that probably won't erupt in my collective family's lifetimes.

Maybe that's why DHS has amassed all those coffins and body bags to include all that ammo.

What's both pathetic and comical is that this gun forum seems to attract more than its share of misfits and miscreants who would be overjoyed if Yellowstone blows its top as that would, in what passes for their minds, validate their silly beliefs in end-of-the-world biblical "prophecies" and cause them to think they are about to be "raptured."

Gee nosreme, did the cat whiz in your Wheaties this morning? This article was not to validate any prophecies from the Bible nor was any mention made about the Rapture. This was just things I had garnered from the internet and presented as a question to anyone living out in the Yellowstone area. I was curious to know if any of the locals there had heard anything about a possible eruption and if the government had made any moves in preparation for such an event. I consider that to be more than some silly belief and those who deny such a thing happening could be in for a very big surprise. Otherwise, why would this be reported in other countries? If such a thing were to happen, would you consider that to be comical? Obviously, something is being prepared for if the U.S. is already working with other countries on an evacuation plan to move us. I am not predicting any world-wide calamity, only posing questions. I am sorry you can't seem to differentiate that from from Biblical prophecy. I am neither a miscreant nor a misfit but someone who is curious about what is happening in our world. I would hope that others would also be taking notice of what is happening but, there again, there are those who can't seem to believe anything not of their own creation.

The last major eruption was approximately 640,000 years ago and the one before that was 1.3 million years ago. When is the next Big One? No one knows. However, consider the recent increase of tectonic and volcanic activities all along the Ring of Fire from Southern Chile, up the West Coast of S. America, Mexico, North America and down through Japan and Malaysia. IF there should be a sizable earthquake even in the vicinity of Yellowstone it could accelerate or even make things happen either relatively quickly (months or years) or overnight. So, I won't be buying any property anywhere near that area nor will I loose any sleep worrying about the POSSIBILITY of it happening in my lifetime. Neither should you, unless you're feeling lucky of course.

I'm not an overly religious person and I found absolutely nothing irritating or worthy of criticism in your post. I don/t know much about what nos wrote because he is on my ignore list but from your quote of his remarks I think he has his positions locked in, is probably unhappy with life and is looking for something to vent about. Don't let him get to you. The ignore button can be your friend.

Heard a rumor of strange animal activity around the area in the past few years. Moose and Elk dancing naked in the streets, wolves and cougars sitting together at the bar, fox and rabbits playing together, coyotes and wolverines feasting together etc etc etc and the list goes on. In all serious though animals have been acting different and ground measurements have been increasing, the shore of a lake there has receded due to ground swelling, helium 3 gas I think it was is increasing as was methane and other types. Jellystone could be ready for a burp or a full out eruption. Only God knows when but do know this, if it does go full out eruptile dysfunction there will be so much ash in the atmosphere that it will turn the sun black as sackcloth for months if not longer causing massive plant life to die off then go the animals and insects and then people around the globe. Relocating to another continent would not matter. Could it be one of God's judgements on America?

longslide: I have heard and read all the information you mentioned about the changes at Yellowstone, especially the aftermath which would be so crippling to the country. I do take notice of things but do not generally get upset until I hear more. In this case, I did hear more. The mention of evacuation plans for our citizens to other countries definitely got my attention yet, nothing to become paranoid about. If that information is being published in other countries and by Turner Radio Network, I thought it prudent to do a little more research. That is why I posted the entry to see if any of the locals out there had heard anything about evacuation plans. Some seem to think that to be an unreasonable thought but, there are always those "what ifs." What if it is true? Is there activity at the caldera that should give one an idea that maybe they should get prepared for something? If, and I say if, the government is aware of impending problems, why haven't the locals been notified or will they only be notified after the fact? If there is the slightest possibility that something may happen, only a damn fool would not make preparations. Remember Harry Truman who lived at Mt. St. Helens? He didn't believe the mountain would blow and chose to remain in his home. Very, very bad move on his part. The effects of an eruption at Yellowstone is supposed to be 1,000 times greater than Mt. St. Helens and could spread ash ten feet deep a thousand miles away. Statistics like that do get my attention, especially having family out there. I am by no means panicing about the situation but I, as I would think any rational person would, do have concerns. For whatever reason, if one expresses something that others on here think ridiculous, one automatically become a member of the Tin Hat Brigade.

I don't think the elitist better than thou govt has any intention of transporting us lowly common folk anywhere. The American people be damned. I think what they were really referring to was moving their own a$$es to S Africa.

OG---Don't get me wrong I was not trying to be disrespectful of your post if you took it that way. I have family in Denver and they would be highly effected and I am concerned too that something could be imminent. I have mentioned it to them and they have said nothing but there are signs pointing to a possible eruption. It could be big or just a hiccup. God will make that determination. If it becomes a full scale eruption I hope not to be around. Thanks for posting, I now have another topic to investigate more.
