My wife and I recently went to Yakima Cinemas for the first time since moving to Yakima, as we usually go to their other theater in Union Gap. After I paid for our tickets, and while waiting in line to enter the lobby & give those tickets to the ticket-taker I noticed a sign that indicated that "Weapons, including guns and knives" were not permitted in the theater. According to the sign, this was to promote a "family atmosphere" within the theater, however I am not sure how the R rated movies promote this family atmosphere.
Since these signs have no force of law in Washington State, I didn't worry about the enforceability of this policy. I have written Kathi Mercy, the owner of this theater, indicating that I will respect her decision by never giving her my money again.
