XDs Recall: Did you send yours in?

Well hello again kid no never really thought about you as a buddy. I have read your reaction so here---- you are right you are so so right and I am wrong. So wrong and so sorry to trouble you. Thank you for straitening me out,There. The reason I made my comment was because the question was asked and I'm not a lier. After reading this thread can't see where anyone is following me(except maybe you??) I also contend that there aren't many of the follower types on here as they think for themselves at least from what I've seen they like making there own decisions. No not a metallurgist(though don't think metal quality is issue with firearm) but yes you are absolutely right not a metallurgist And defiantly I should have never mentioned a third party that is truly is my fault as I do not have his educational degrees handy to show everyone (oh I mean you) so once again I'm dearly sorry. I apologize for effecting your life in this way. Please forgive me for misunderstanding your kind words and knowledge you bestowed upon me. Really I hope you enjoy this site and the others that post and reply also. Have a blessed day

This Springfield XD-S™ Recall FAQ will be updated every Friday through the recall process. Please check back for updates.

Thank you for the positive response to our voluntary safety recall and to our most recent update. We exercised extreme caution by issuing this recall and we did so because safety is, and always has been, our paramount concern. We truly appreciate the enormous support, patience and loyalty of our customers and we remain committed to resolving this matter quickly and ensuring that you are pleased with your upgraded 3.3 XD-S™.

As we noted in last Friday's update, our testing of potential upgrade solutions has continued and we are pleased to tell you that we have made significant progress over the last seven days. We have now identified what we believe is our final upgrade solution and throughout this coming week we will be continuing with our thorough and exhaustive testing of that solution. It's because of our commitment to your safety that we are conducting such extensive testing and we are working as fast as we can so that we can return your upgraded pistol to you.

We understand that our voluntary safety recall has made it inconvenient for you to be without your pistol, and we sincerely apologize for that. We expect to have more definitive information to share with you by Friday, October 11.

I carry to protect myself AND loved ones, not to endanger them with a gun that might be flawed, no matter how remote. There are no do overs with guns.

When it is returned I will treat it like a brand new gun and shoot and train with it until I am confident it should be back in my carry and defense rotation.

If it is gone another 30, 60, or 90 days isn't the issue. SA will design and install an upgrade that meets or exceeds their (and my) standards, and I don't want it back till then.

+1 I hope you posted in the "lawsuit" thread, too.

You can receive recall updates by text message if you text XDS to 25827.

Here is a copy of the email I sent to Springfield, along with the response I just received:

To Whom It May Concern:

We are now a month down the road from when the recall notice was first issued, and you still have not yet identified a fix for the XD-S problem. I certainly understand the desire for safety, but your approach was wrong - especially if there were as few incidents as you have indicated.

If there were truly as few cases as has been represented (and I have been acquainted with dozens of XD-S owners who have fired hundreds or more rounds through their firearms without incident, so I do believe the number of trouble firearms is indeed very small), then you should have waited until you had a fix in place and dealt with the trouble firearms on a case-by-case basis rather than disarm thousands of your customers. Frankly, slam fires are not at all unheard of in semi-auto handguns with free-floating firing pins, and unintended double-taps are also not unheard of if the free-floating firing pin somehow gets stuck. No one would have minded waiting a couple of weeks for their firearm to be fixed, but a couple of months or more is absurd. Additionally, there are those in law enforcement and security who rely on these firearms and need them on a daily basis; by the time you finally find a fix for this problem, you will have deprived them of the use of their firearm for MONTHS - and probably lost customers in the process. This is having an effect on new firearm sales as well.

Again, I understand the desire for safety, but this would have been better handled on a case-by case basis until you developed a fix.

Thank you for your email and input into our XD-S recall. All of our customers safety was our number one concern when we initiated the voluntary recall. We honestly did feel that we had the upgrade in place and would have been able to turn them around in the first 30 days. We are currently endurance testing what we feel is our final solution and hope to have more information by this Friday afternoon. Again, I do thank you for your email and please let me know if you have any other questions or comments.

Thank you,
Dawn

Good, Springfield is doing their best to ensure our safety, and provide a fix that will ensure that, all while ensuring that our XDs's will be the 100% reliable gun we can put our trust in, as are the XD and XDM lines.

Today my XD40sc is on my EDC, for the simple reason I know it is a quality, reliable and safe gun. I look forward to the return of my XDs, and while I will treat it as I treat all new guns by shooting the fool out of it, I look forward to putting in back in the rotation for EDC.

I really hope that those without the maturity to accept this, sell their XDs and cease to be a member of XDs owners. And since it is such a terrible gun, I will be glad to negotiate a purchase, with the price based on their perspective toward it.

XD-S™ Upgrade Testing Very Near Completion

We last updated this site Friday, October 4, with the good news that we have found what we believe is the final solution for the XD-S™ upgrade and that we would be continuing exhaustive testing through the week.

We will update this site again on Friday, October 11 and fully expect that we will have more great news to share. We are making final arrangements for upgrading the pistols that our customers returned to us.

They began shipping firearms back today!!!

Springfield 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm pistols - serial numbers between XS900000 and XS938700
Springfield 3.3 XD-S™ .45ACP pistols - serial numbers between XS500000 and XS686300

We are pleased to announce that the process of upgrading XD-S™ pistols has begun, and we will start shipping TODAY on a first-received/first-upgraded basis.

In our last update, we reported that upgraded pistols would start shipping sometime next week. But our team has been working around the clock and we are thrilled to start shipping today.

We have greatly increased our staff to get upgraded pistols back to customers quickly, and we are committed to achieving the fastest turnaround times possible. For now, we are unable to provide specific return shipping date ranges, but we do expect to share more information next Friday after we've had a full week to gauge how efficiently we will be able to complete this process.

When upgrades are finished on individual firearms, customers will receive a shipping notice and tracking information at the e-mail address they provided for the XD-S™ recall. And as a token of our appreciation for our customers' patience and support, we will also be enclosing an XD-S™ extended magazine with X-tension sleeve with each pistol we return.

As we reported last week, our engineers have redesigned the grip safety and created more positive engagement between the sear and striker on the upgraded XD-S™ pistols. Our solution delivers the advantages of a smoother and more consistent trigger feel with just a slightly increased trigger pull. We chose this option based on the two most important attributes to self-defense firearm owners - safety and reliability - and we are confident that our customers will be extremely pleased with their upgraded pistols.

We want to again express our deep gratitude to all of our valued customers for their loyalty to Springfield Armory®.

Great news!! Springfield just announced that they are commencing shipping out XDS; on a first in first out basis; I hope all of those that were screaming lawsuit will be glad to know that no-one was injured because Springfield was pro-active in getting the handguns out of the hands of the owners before a tragic event transpired! I can trust a company like them!!!

I just received my recall notice in the mail today. Har! Better late than never! Shipped mine in weeks ago. I'm gonna dig that 7-round mag., they are throwing-in!

The best part of it, the Springfield Champion I'm carrying won't try to drop my trousers. That thing is heavy, and hard to conceal.

I wonder what "slight" increase in pull actually means? I thought the trigger on mine was heavy at over 7 lbs., gritty and vague feeling.

Heavier trigger I may practice away, just hope the new trigger mods will enhance its pull and break.

Also wondering if new guns will have the exact modifications, or something tailored to mass production lines?

Think I'll bop over to the xd owner website and see what's poppin'.

Riderbike, where did you get the information that they are including a 7 round mag? I did not see that anywhere; It would be a good thing though!!!

Thanks r1derbike; I saw it after I posted the reply to you; I was planning on ordering two of the 7 round mags for range use; Now I only have to order one.

Haven't sent mine in yet. Wanted to wait until a fix was made and returns were happening. Will be sending mine in shortly.

I would give it some time as they are still extremely backlogged and you will still end up waiting for quite some time. I think they are still saying new returns are 8-14 weeks out. Just FYI....
