The sheep are on their own.

A better bumper sticker would be this one:

Wolves-Eating-Sheep.jpg

And have an arrow pointing toward the sheep saying "You", and an arrow pointing toward the wolves saying, "criminals, including the government".

If you know what you’re looking at the implication is obvious but I don’t think the “sheep” are going to get it. Maybe if you got a vanity plate that said GKCO-45 or a low key, yet stylish CCW badge on a belt holder instead.

My opinion on that "sheepdog" thing.....

I am not a sheep for I do not mill around with the flock with my attention on fitting in with the flock.

I am not a wolf for I do not prey on the sheep.

I am not a sheepdog for I do not have the responsibility to protect the sheep... nor do I have any desire to fight the wolf.

I am a stray dog... I am warily friendly to the sheep and I avoid the wolf as I fend for myself yet I will fiercely fight to protect those I love... from both wolf and sheep.

That said... I don't like using the word "sheep" because it is derogatory to people who need to be educated that they too can defend from the "wolf".

The word "wolf" is an accurate term for predatory criminals so I have no problem with that one.

And the word "sheepdog" sounds so nice... to be someone who protects the weak and innocent... but the truth is... I have no delusions of heroic grandeur that it is my job or responsibility to protect other citizens just because I carry a gun. I can choose to protect other citizens because of my individual morals and ethics... but I am not obligated to... it still isn't my job or responsibility... hence I am not a "sheepdog".

Well said - I feel the same way.

Very well said Bikenut.
I also have mixed feelings about the whole sheepdog mentality. On the one hand a willingness to defend the helpless, or more accurately, clueless is a positive things. OTOH, unless you are a police officer it's not your job or responsibility to do so. I'm not saying I wouldn't step in and assist someone in need, I'm just saying that it's not my responsibility, the sheep are not my problem. I'm no warrior, badass, crime fighter, or super hero. I'm just a guy minding my own business, for the most part, unless someone goes out of their way to make themselves my business, I have no quarrel with them.
If I must identify with an animal, I guess I'll be the cat, they are friendly enough until threatened. But heaven help you if you get on the wrong side of one, out come the teeth and claws and all the sudden you are dealing with an animal that can bring the pain way outside of it's weight class.

I might defend the helpless. I would not defend the clueless. They choose to be that way.

Peggy,
Good luck sorting them out!
Maybe I'm just a cynic but it's been my experience, which is considerable, that the helpless are usually helpless because they are clueless in the first place.

To be more specific, I might help a child or an elderly person. I'm fairly confident I could sort those out. Other than my own family, that's about it.

I kind of think in these terms-if I can take a BG out I will; no matter who I am protecting. I will not run toward trouble, nor away from it. If it finds me, I will deal with it if I can.

Ain't that the truth! Also well said.
