This is concerning the new proposal of having women in the combat roles in our military. This is a political conception that hasn’t been vetted by the various military branches to a logical conclusion. I being a 20 year military veteran have been in various situations where not only would having a woman there be impractical, but would be counterproductive to the combat mission, but downright dangerous to others on the mission. Sure there are some women out there who can do every physical requirement that’s required during training, but the percentage is very small in that respect. There has been a set of physical standards for front line combat military personal that have been in use for years and have shown that not only do they ensure the only the ones who can achieve these physical standards are allowed to advance towards further combat related skills that are required of them. The only way a woman would be able to pass these physical standards would be to change and lower the various standards where it comes to them and if they do that, they are not using the same standards where it comes to the overall equality of the unit they would be attached to. Just imagine this scenario; a six man patrol including two women are in a situation where they can’t move around due to the situation and when the people have to relive themselves they have to pee in a plastic bag and defecate in a MRE (meals ready to eat) carton, now I know the genders have come a long way since I was younger, but this is just going to cause problems no matter what. If you could ask the down in the mud and grime grunt what they think, I will bet you when they have to put their lives on the line in a prolonged firefight they will want to know that the person who’s got their back 100%, but has been where they have been and can physically and mentally be there as well. I’m not saying that there are not places for women where there are some combat situations, like forward observation posts where there are minimal personal amenities –IE- showers, bathrooms and sleeping arrangements, but to introduce them in places where they will be put in situations that will cause a severe lack of the units cohesion that is not needed or asked for.
