Will the background fee go away for CCW holders?

I've been to several shops over the past week, and there is no real consensus over whether the background fee is going to go away for CCW permitees on July 1st, as AB 282 was signed into law a week ago this past Friday. Does anyone have good information on this? Something was said about an Omnibus bill that the DEA is involved with, that would somehow hold up the removal of the fee.

It isn't going away any time soon. The sheriffs have to vote to ask the ATF to reinstate the exemption, and then the ATF will have to look into it. The sheriffs aren't meeting until the middle of July, and if they do ask, who knows how long it will take the ATF to consider the request. I wouldn't expect anything to change anytime in the immediate future.

Thanks. I said DEA, but meant ATF. Got my agencies mixed up. Hopefully, the fee will go away as many feel it is unfairly charged. I do recognize its intention, but I feel it is redundant for permit holders.

The NSCA said its bylaws require a vote and the NSCA has agendized the issue of applying to the BATFE for restoral of Nevadans' CCW permit/NICS exemption.

The NSCA meeting is scheduled for July 21, 2011. If the NSCA votes to apply for the NICS exemption, the application will be made to BATFE.

Assuming a favorable vote to apply, it is unknown exactly how long it will take for the BATFE to consider and restore our NICS exemption.

Why must the NSCA, a NV non-profit corporation, vote on whether or not to apply for the exemption? That is a darned good question.

I can't imagine why individuals cannot point out to the BATFE that NV law now complies with the requirements for the NICS exemption and request reinstatement of the exemption for NV's CCW permit holders.

Maybe someone should contact the ATF about the changes so that they can restore the background exemption if the NSCA decides not to vote to notify the ATF.
