WiFi access in Burger King

I was having lunch at Burger King today and thought I'd check out the USA Carry forum. Hooked myself into their free wifi and looked up USA Carry. Tried to open the site and was denied by Burger Kings system. It stated reason "Weapon". I was quite suprised and asked for the manager. She told me that they don't control what is restricted on their wifi and was sorry. Has anyone had this issue with Burger King? If this is the case I will eat at McD's as they have never restricted my access to USA Carry.

I haven't tried WiFi at any Burger Kings but I had the same thing happen to me at the University of Iowa Hospital. I could not get on this forum or on to brownells.com because it said weapons related sites were restricted.

They have every right to control the use of the internet that they pay for. We have every right to support businesses that support the Second Amendment. I tell the manager why I am taking my business elsewhere.

It's the same at Caribou Coffee. They allowed it last week, but on Wednesday I tried logging on and was stopped by their stupid IP page. Then I tried to renew my daughter's NRA membership and all the pages of the NRA website work except the membership page. I asked the employees what was up with that and got a blank stare. They probably can't spell NRA.

Just because I don't trust "free wi-fi" I always use my cell providers 3G and never sign onto a network I don't trust.

this is an example of what will be if the gubbermint ever taks control of the internet, or puts commercial providers out of business by offering free access, just like china, iran, cuba the US would censor sites it didn't approve of

I was a satellite contractor installing all over for years staying in many hotels that blocked certain websites. There is a simple way to get around restrictions, use a VPN service such as StrongVPN.com - Providing high speed, unlimited bandwidth, multiple countr VPN accounts for over 100,000 users. Since 1995. You pay the super low cost for service, set up your browser, surf the new without fear of your IP showing or without the local access point seeing what or where you're looking.

You can select different servers if a site is restricted to only a certain country or the like. They are also great if you use torrent sites, warez sites, or news groups.... Or so I've heard :)

This is a simple case of a nanny type program or firewall block that prevents key words or sites from being viewed. They probably use a default settings program - which is meant to block kids from accessing things of "questionable" nature. such as porn / violence / etc.

Many company's with free wifi / etc - generally instal these types of blocks after complaints from "parents" who seen their little retarded kids viewing "questionable" content. I put the parents in parenthesis because they are not parents, just people who spawned kids and don't raise them to behave/act right/etc. These types of people generally send their kids to school and dont care what the teacher is telling them (unless its against some crazy belief of theirs). I should know, ive been asked to instal such stuff before - to restrict web access to various types of sites.. I hate to do it, but its the job I am paid for.

On my personal network at home, I have blocked Facebook - just because I do not agree with how they use / abuse the data they are given and get a hold of via 3rd parties. I also use various tools to keep sites from knowing much about me. Stuff that prevent scripts running in website / adverts / etc. What I do know about computer tracking of people bothers me enough, that what I dont know they can do really makes the tin foil hat come out. I installed this one add-on for my browser that allows me to see the links between various sites and how they share data as I visit them. very creepy.

What ever happened to "Have it your way"

Government controlling what you can read.

Ummmm, you do understand that the King in Burger King has nothing to do with the government, right? It's just the name of a PRIVATE corporation and has nothing to do government censorship. Here, have a hat:
