Wife draws at Walmart

She didn't engage... she prepared to engage. big difference.
For God's sake can we close this thread. YES, she did engage by drawing her weapon. She engage the event she "HEARD" before her. If you don't think she engaged, then walk around with your gun at the ready position and see what your local LEO's do. You really sound like Billy Boy......define IS.
I would ADD the anyone that posts with former FED/STATE/LOCAL LEO background would not understand what non-trained to those standards would encompass. What you think as a JAFO would be and probably was different when you had the force of Gov't backing you. Civilians don't have that comfort. To engage a situation, is just that, to progress in actions due to the events happening and reacting. Her reaction was to draw her weapon. She may have felt due cause, then good for her. I don't think she had it. I wasn't there, I'm ONLY responding to the O.P.
NUFF SAID from me on this. Carry often and carry COCKED & LOCKED. Bigger pieces of lead means bigger damage. 1911 45ACP JHP. Stay safe......

and I am amazed someone would think that anyone who would put the welfare of his family above the welfare of some stranger who doesn't have the balls to defend their own damn selves is some kind of coward.

Bikenut - I sir, and all that I serve with have put your safety above the welfare of our family. The country we have defended is not whomever our commander in chief happens to be at the time, or any of the elected officials. It is you, your neighbor, and even the kwimby's and mappow's in the world. it is the average American. I cannot count the number of birthdays, anniversaries or holidays I have spent on duty rather than with my family. Granted it is a choice I made, I just ask that you don't belittle it.

And I have made my choice. Family first... others second. I would appreciate it if you didn't belittle my choice to not miss anniversaries, birthdays, ball games, moonlight walks with my wife, just to protect some weenie who is unwilling to get their own damn gun and protect themselves.

By the way... unless you start following me around in your tank to protect me from gangbangers the military isn't interested in my personal safety. The military protects a way of life... not individual life. Even if we lost a war and the U.S. came under the rule of a foreign country it would still be just me who is responsible for protecting my family.... not the military.

As a matter of fact, I am in the Coast Guard, and we do not fall under the Posse Cometatus act which prohibits the military from police actions on US soil. I actually enforce laws on our coast, in our harbors and rivers, and if necessary pursue those actions ashore. We stop illegal migrants from entering the country by water, we stop drugs from entering the US by water, and like cops, we even enforce boating while intoxicated to keep you safe from irresponsible boaters. We use boats instead of police cars. We do have people serving around the world in places like the Persian Gulf, but they are mainly reservists called back to active duty because our main focus is here.

Puddle jumper, should of known it. You're DOT and have this idea of being a LEO but in actuality you're just another active duty member that thinks that your training encompasses all. While I thank you for your service. I take pause , again, that your view is skewed. UNDERSTAND THIS; without that training you'd be unable to handle most situations. MOST civilians DO NOT have this type of training nor understand the legal ramifications of engagement.

people have to learn or be taught that having a concealed carry permit does not make them into LEOs cops or superheroes.
the need to realize that all they are, are people with permits to carry a firearm.
If they choose to use their weapon to defend themselves from imminent threats, so be it! if they start to get the mindset that they need to intervene in incidents that they are a witness to, they are asking for troubles. YMMV

Do you not realize that is one of the reasons to have a CCW permit, to protect yourself . "as well as other< to wit: "the public" from death or serious bodily injury. How would you feel If someone with a CCW permit stood by and "watched" as a criminal attacked you inflicting serious (life threatening) injuries to you? I"m sure you would ask:" Why did he/she not do anything to help me?" I have CCW and would gladly use my weapon to defend the life of anyone at anytime, period!!!

The Coast Guard operates under DHS/DOD not under DOT. Some of the Coast Guard's main functions on the Southern Coast are drug interdiction and immigration. How is that not LE?

I think your view is just as skewed as anybody else's.

Thanks jcreek, I didn't want to dignify his response by commenting. I had faith that there were others that would get it. Another point is that most in this forum that have some sort of CCL have had training that will at least inform them of the applicable state laws. Since they are so varied, a general comment on a situation like this could actually be harmful rather than helpful.

I agree. I like the way she handled this. No malice of LEO impersonation intended. Just someone willing to take a stand. Good job!

She was simply ready. If the Nutcase would have drawn a weapon and started shooting she was ready. I would rather have my gun in my hand and be ready than to hit the deck then try to draw and take position. She was ready.
As for her statement, Neither here nor there, it just was. You have no idea what your going to say in a stressful situation. Her statement was clearly in anticipation of having to protect and defend.

Thanks to all for the support and positive feedback. The wife really appreciates it. The nay-sayers and nit-pickers can go spit.
