Wife draws at Walmart

In PA, the difference between a citizen's arrest and a LEO's arrest is zero. It would be interesting to hear what the wording is for AZ.

Either way, this lady was ready to do what she needed to do. Also, by saying "I am now"... meant she was not before, therefore the answer I heard was "No, I'm not, but I'll protect you and myself, now stand back."

That is in PA, the woman was in AZ. I don't know the laws in AZ, but I know that the power of citizens arrest is based on state law. In my state, there are no powers of citizens arrest.

Her response should have been "I'm a good person with a gun"

She could have said, "The NRA sent me." Ha. I think her response was fine.

She did an excellent job of protecting herself, but answering in the affirmative to "are you a cop" was not appropriate, and had the person asking been some anti-gun fanatic, or an actual LEO, it could have created some issues after the fact.

I think she did good. I didn't get that she was impersonating a cop or implying that at all. If that was my wife, i'd be proud of her too.

When you have a gun in your hands you must be careful what you say. She is nowhere near being a cop, a better answer would be; "no I'm not, just someone who does not want to die today". I realize she probably thought about it later and I'm sure she had the adrenalin pumping at the time. I'm not condemning her, just offering my advice. Had something happened, it's possible she could have saved a life.

:triniti:

LOve all these responses stating what should have been said. Curious. How many of you practice not only your draw and shooting techniques, but your responses as well.

Unless you have walked the walk, give it a rest.

Lady did da** good job. I would bet money the person she said that too has no memory of the actual words spoken.

This is what I love about those who live in the great state of Arizona: IWB. Looking to move there myself within the next three years. Little worried about the water supply question, though.

She did not say she was a cop she said I am now! meaning she was going to defend herself and others. That what I got out of her statement. Is that what you train your students?? don't do anything cause the cops might come up behind you and have PC to shoot you? yes it happens cops kill cops ever year by accident. but do they stop protecting us or each other no they try to teach each other to read the incident before you you pull the trigger. She stood up for herself and for others in a large store where it could have a been a mass killing. She was not going to sit by. A women who was brave and stood up. She did not go guns blazing like the cops in NY who missed the bad guy so many time it was a joke on the Letterman show. they were shot at so I think they should have fired but they need more range time.
That's what CCW is we are prepared to defend our self and others we risk our self's to stand up to evil.
cause for evil to win only takes good men and women to do NOTHING!!! so by your standards fear of the cops or court is why we do nothing. That's why we fight for stand your ground and for CCW in the first place.Things like this!!!
Common sense is applied. real common sense. You jump before you think!!! think!! before you jump is this something that went bad? or did it stop the bad guy in his tracks? if you were facing the bad guy and he had a weapon and you did not if she stood up for you would you have said OH MY GOD!!!PUT THAT GUN DOWN YOU SILLY WOMAN!!!DO YOU WANT TO GET IN TROUBLE??? COPS MAY THINK YOUR A BAD GUY!! as your brain is blown out your skull by the real bad guy.
And considering how small a target that is that would be a great shot by the bad guy! When our people are brave is that how we treat them OH NO DON'T DO ANYTHING YOU GET IN TROUBLE!!!!
I am a shamed of any Man who think this lady is not HUNDRED percent a hero she stood up and by reading some of you you would have walked out. carrying a concealed gun. and have done nothing!!!
I am a marine VET and am proud of her. So MRS GR8GUNZ THANK YOU FOR YOUR BRAVE STAND!!

I have no problem with the wife especially that she was concealed behind cover and did not point the pistol. Had she pointed the pistol, with no fear for her personal safety this would not be a self
defense situation although it could have fell into a defense of another situation.

Mappow, she was not impersonating an officer, she just stated that she wasz the closest thing to a cop, so for all intents and purposes she was acting as an officer would, given the same situation. I am a former peace officer, and would have chuckled over her statement after the madman was subdued. The lady was prepared to perform an act of selflessness by being ready to take out the man if he became truly violent. She deserves a commendation, not condemnation. Mappow would probably be shivering under a counter and purging his bowels.

If someone doesn't care enough to defend their life, how can someone else do so for them? My firearm is for my life and my family's life. Period.
So, you're saying that if you pulled into a shopping center and saw a 6'4" 280 lb man choking the life out of a 5' 85 lb woman on the sidewalk and you were armed you would not intervene but simply let him kill her. What kind of a human being are you?

That's what happened to my friend in 1993. He was on his way home from the shooting range with his Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 mag. He pulled in to get a Coke and saw the above scenario playing out & several people watching but doing nothing. He yelled at the guy to stop several times but he ignored him. The woman had already lost conciousness when he fired one time striking the perp once in the head. Paramedics arrived and cpr revived the woman. Fire station was only 5 blocks away or she probably wouldn't have made it.ME pronounced the perp drt.

Police took my friend in & kept his gun for evidence. He was not charged. The Grand Jury no billed him at the request of the DA.

Here's another one. A man and his 12 yo son were returning from hunting when they saw a state trooper and a man fighting on the side of the road near San Angelo, Tx. Just as they passed the man got the trooper's gun from his holster & shot him. The man stopped several yards down the road got his 7-08 hunting rifle from the rack and shot the bg. The trooper lived & returned to duty. The bg, who was an escaped inmate, driving a stolen car was drt.

Texas Rangers would not release the name of the hunter or his son for his own privacy & protection. The TX Highway Patrol honored the man at a banquet in San Angelo & offerred him a job as a trooper. He declined the job but he did accept a fully engraved S&W Model 28 Highway Patrolman 4" 357.

She did an excellent job of protecting herself, but answering in the affirmative to "are you a cop" was not appropriate, and had the person asking been some anti-gun fanatic, or an actual LEO, it could have created some issues after the fact.

She didn't answer "affirmative" as to being a cop. Say hi to Bloomie for me when you attend his next campaign fund raiser.

who cares what she said. She was reacting to a what could have been a very serious situation. Thank God it did not go any further. I feel better knowing there are people like her out there.

"woman next to here whispered, "are you a cop"? Which she replied, "I am now". " And this is what you instruct your students??? Impersonation of LEO is a crime in it self. Can't believe you would condone this. So <<what if>> a true LEO came up behind her whilst responding to the incident? The LEO would have had PC to escalate to the next level.

Good grief! Do you find a cop to kiss butt on a regular basis? Go soak your head.

This lady did exceptionally well, given the circumstances. She was ready to respond if necessary, and didn't waste time trying to argue the LEO stupid question.

But yes... in such a situation, we are ALL peace officers. It's called the natural militia. There is no magic juju in a uniform...

Perfect. Rather than spending the next 5 minutes addressing the bystanders question, she was smart enuf to shut the conversation down........ Right now... I wish I could be so quick thinking. Take that lady out to a great dinner.

You naysayers are, IMHO, sharp as a bowling ball. Of the millions of options that she had, the most likely in an adrenaline charged situation would be to duck and forget she even had a gun, or like you pansies not want to take a chance of making themselves a target. If you read the OP, there were no cops present, they had been called. what if something were to happen in the time it took them to respond? I have been taught to draw my weapon ANYTIME I feel there might be a need to use it. Unless you're name is Earp or something, waiting for a BG (or possible BG) to perform an aggressive act towards you before drawing is just a little to nice in my book. I never plan to enter into a fair fight...
