A journalism professor at the University of Kansas (KU) turned to Twitter on Monday to suggest he would like to see the murder of children of National Rifle Association (NRA) members at the hands of a deranged gunman.

“#NavyYardShooting The blood is on the hands of the #NRA,” tweeted David Guth, who is an associate professor of Journalism at the university’s William Allen White School of Journalism.

KU on Wednesday told Campus Reform that they stand by the professor's right to make such statements.

“Faculty have their own social media accounts and use those to express personal opinions, but those opinions do not represent the university,” spokesman Jack Martin wrote in an email statement to Campus Reform on Wednesday.

With kind of faculty in our universities is there any wonder how our children are being brain washed/indoctrinated to progressive/liberal thinking. Academics have long been a abhorrent source of turmoil against our constitutional rights and towards socialist/communistic thinking and doctrine.

The two classes I got the worst grades in in college were both humanities classes. And both of which were full of liberal bias. The regular Psychology class wasn't far behind while the Psychology for Law Enforcement Officers was the exact opposite end of the spectrum.

Most anti-gunners are liberals and most college professors are liberals. The news media is mostly liberals and they often use their job as a bully pulpit to push their personal agendas. They of course will tell you they are only reporting the news and not adding their opinion. They will also pick and choose the news they care to report on and then put their own slant on it to push their agenda. The press can and does often make the news they report and rarely are they called on it.

As someone with a PhD and on faculty at a university I would hope that you do not paint with too broad a brush - it would be no better that that anti-gunner's painting all of us as violent criminals. I will be the first to agree that I am an anomaly here on campus, but we do exist.

Some gun owners are dickheads and some academicians are, too. This guy is clearly among them.

Thank you for your post. I too am an academician, but I teach physics in the high school arena. There are more conservative-minded firearms owners than a lot of people may think in academia, however, as "the dark" has stated, we are the anomaly.

A University of Kansas journalism professor was placed on indefinite administrative leave Friday for a tweet he wrote about the Navy Yard shootings which said, “blood is on the hands of the #NRA. Next time, let it be YOUR sons and daughters.”

The university also responded, as Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little issued a statement Friday saying that “in order to prevent disruptions to the learning environment,” Guth was placed on indefinite administrative leave pending a review. His classes will be taught by other faculty members.
Guth, who on Thursday told The Associated Press in a phone interview that his tweet “got a conversation going — that was exactly what I wanted to do,” agreed Friday that the university’s action was appropriate in light of email threats he and others at the university had received.
