The power of [Beretta] is a curious thing
Make a one man weep, make another man sing...

The Beretta M9 / 92 is one of my very favorite 9mm handguns. As many may know, the Beretta M92A1, a variant of the same sidearm issued to the US Military: the Beretta M9.

What do I like about it?

  • The weight makes recoil extremely manageable.
  • The capacity.
  • The trigger, yes, I know...but I like it.
  • Double action is a hard pull, SA after that is just fine.
  • Reset point is very nice.

What do I not like about it?

  • The Beretta "up is on, down is off" safety takes some getting used to.
  • The lock up system is different, but workable.
  • It's not quite as easy to take down as my SIG P226, etc.

But all in all, definitely one of my favorites!

Here's my "Close Up!" video of the pistol, followed by a link to the longer review I did on it.

IMO the Beretta is too heavy for what it is

Personal preferences, of course. Nothing wrong with that opinion, it's VERY common. Me, I love M9s(92s) and own two. The weight, as said helps reduce recoil dramatically allowing for very fast follow-up shots. The weapons construction, being all metal, increases its durability (in most cases). Also, if I need to beat the sh!t out of somebody with it I can! Serving as a secondary combat weapon, it fills that position superbly. However, if I was to rely on a pistol as my EDC... not so much. There are far lighter, more compact 9x19s out there to fill that particular role.
