Why be a gun snob?!

So lately I'm seeing more and more comments on this and other forums and even at the LGS here where I live. Ya know? The ones that say " I wouldent own that gun its junk!" When in reality its a well reviewed gun with great shooting ability. I hate that! I own a few guns and a lot of people look down their noses at me when I mention them. Just because or doesn't say Colt or Kimber or Flock or River ect... doesn't mean its not a great fire arm! Would I like a Kimber? He'll yeah! I'm just not in a position to spend that kind of money as a lot of the working class is in the same boat. I'm not mad cause Joe blow down the road or on the forums I'm on has a higher quality or higher priced gun. That's great for him and I hope I can too someday. All I ask is don't look down on me like I'm a piece of trash because I don't own an expensive and fancy firearm. Know that I've worked my ars off to get what I have and deserve to be proud of that and so does every other middle class blue collared man or woman. Remember your no better than me and you may have a high priced gun, but that doesn't mean your a marksman! Thanks for letting me rant.

There is a famous saying about scooters and fat girls. Some guns are like scooters, you don't talk about them... Enjoy them. I for one collect, carry, and shoot smith and wesson classic revolvers I wouldn't own anything else.

Hear hear, love the rant! I get alot of flack for having a Tauras pt145 for ccw, 600+rnds no issues. I hear hi-point pistols are junk but I hear nothing but good things about their carbines. And as a working man, yes, been saving for almost a year for a RRA RA-15, almost there.

With some exceptions... I am all for budget weapons. I have found that some of the cheapest firearms out there are some of the best! I don't make a lot of money, so "bang for your buck" is a huge thing with me. As well as practicality, philosophy of use, and personal comfort obviously.

I really love all my Taurus, Rossi, Norinco, Mossberg, and Century Arms weapons! Even a Ruger or two are "cheap" weapons and function flawlessly(P345,P89). Everybody knows Mossberg as being fine weapons, but they're still looked down upon by some as the poor mans shotgun.

I own two Century Arms AKs, both have withstood terrible abuse on my part! I have fired 500-750rds through in a matter of minutes with no failures, I've thrown them on the ground many times, I've covered them with sand and mud... picked 'em up, racked the bolt and fired! Still, the work! Not bad for a $500 gun!

I picked up a Norinco copy of an 870 12ga for $200, hasn't had a hiccup yet! That weapon too gets thrown on the ground, still rock solid.

My Rossi(Taurus now) .38 is just as good as my Smith & Wesson model 15!

I have found that it's not always "you get what you pay for" when it comes to firearms.

In all honesty to the OP, what would be the fun be if we couldn't? It expresses who some of us are, people say Glocks are number one, but I'll take my M&P over one any day. I like saying my M&P is better than a Glock, when in actuality there pretty much the same one is just less expensive and is made in America :D. I trust American made products more than something from another country.

Absolutely agree with you drew. Constructive comments on the reliabilty etal of different firearms is what this forum should be about but that "attitude" you infer says a lot about the people who write it. Pretentious smartasses who will probably be the first ones to crap in their pants if they have to actually present their mega $$ beauties for real. There are ways to discuss things on these forums and there are ways to make yourself look like a fool.

Who cares who has what gun. If you want to spend $1300 on a 1911 have at it. I know people that have top of the line guns and the wont shoot them because their expensive.
Mean while at the range with my Taurus 1911 im cutting the black circle out of a paper target..I also shoot right handed and left handed . The Taurus 800 series works very well for me. You can't do that with some other high dollar guns. Unless you order them specifically for shooting left handed . Then if you want to shoot it right handed you will have to buy a right hand gun. I do agree that you don't want to put your life on the line with a high point pistal.

Maybe the person making the negative comment had a problem with that particular brand in the past.

I had a Taurus 9mm "Slim" that allowed brass to be buldged; I sent it back for repair and they replaced the barrel, but the replacement wasn't numbered to match like the original. I know that's cosmetic, but I wasn't happy about it and the trigger broke wwwaaayyy back. IMO better to spend a little more and get a Glock.

I don't view Kimber as a "top of the line" pistol anymore. Prior to my pruchase I didn't know that the Ultra Carry had a "in the white barrel" and numerous MIM small parts, not tool steel. Those were not actual problems, but the pistol not working properly with the supplied magazine was.

I sometimes carry a Kel-Tec P3AT in my pocket, I prefer it's trigger to the one on my Ruger LCP.
Snobbery? No. Personal experience.

I dont worry about it much.IMHO, opinions are like @$$ ***** everybody has one.Seems like most gun boards on the web are full of opinions. And everybody is and expert {in their mind]. I own Rugers a S&W and a Mossy. They all shoot very well when I need them to.Thats all that matters to me.

The bottom line is the BG don't want to be shot with either the high price or the low price gun! As long as the gun does the job. Hell, if the situation ever occur all I want is a gun in my hand!!!!

Hey CDW: If someone had a problem in the past with a particular firearm, all they have to do is explain the problem so that the forum members can appreciate his particular problem, instead of some farty smarty answer with no purpose other than to make him look like an idiot and denigrate members who are asking for advice. I believe that is the REAL point of the thread.

I'm thinking that if your feelings get hurt when you're on an Internet Forum, you need to be in church instead.

In other words, if you can't stand the heat, stay away from the fire. Almost everybody has wiseass remarks about something or other, not really meaning to hurt feelings.

When the immediate quip seems apropos, there is no thought of spareing feelings either.

Be confident in your choice of weapon and hang everyone who doesn't like it.

"If my economic choice of gun upsets you, you're going to be really mad when you see what I can do with it."

I have several economic guns for the purpose of shooting with Boy Scouts. I want to be able to teach fundamentals without worrying about adolescents dropping or scratching my nice gun.

But I have not noticed a difference in my performance with either my "good" guns or my "cheap" guns. Mostly what I find different is comfort and features or amenities. Reliability and durability might favor the "good" guns in the long run, but regular maintenance and proper use should give any gun a long and productive life.
