When do I carry?
Everyday and Wherever I am allowed to by law.

Why do I carry everyday?
Because I don't have E.S.P. (I don't know when or where a bad guy might try to harm me or my family) & When seconds count the police are usually too many minutes away to be able to help me.

When I get dressed in the morning, I put on my gun. When I go to bed at night, I place the gun on my night-stand. Otherwise, only if I go into a place where carrying is forbidden (church, doctor office, local drug store) am I not carrying. As with The_Outlaw, I don't have ESP, so I don't know when I might need it. The only time in my life I needed a gun was in SE Asia, but I also lack the ability to see into the future, so I carry just in case.

Carry every time you leave your house. If you only carry when you go to a place you think you might need it, could get you in trouble if you have to use it. Sometime the courts look at what a prudent person would do...would a prudent person go to a dangerous area if they felt they needed a weapon to protect their self, most likely not. If asked by law enforcement why I had my weapon with me, (with legal council present), I would say, I always carry.

Thanks, I like that!

Thanks. Getting some good feedback from this site already. Feel more emboldened to take "her" with me wherever now.

I agree with the others, when I get up int the morning, my pants go on gun goes in the holster, when I go to bed, gun goes on the nightstand. If I go to a place that doesn't allow by law, gun get put in vault bolted to back floor until I come out of said establishment. Regrettably, my place of employ doesn't allow me to carry either (hospital).

jameshd: Seeing as how you live in Ks, let me encourage you to re-read the KSA pertaining to places you cannot carry. All listed places are contingent upon subscript (a):

75-7c10. Same; places where carrying concealed weapon not authorized; penalties for
violations. (a) Provided that the premises are conspicuously posted in accordance with rules and regulations adopted by the
attorney general as premises where carrying a concealed handgun is prohibited, no license issued or recognized pursuant to
this act shall authorize the licensee to carry a concealed handgun into the building of

(emphasis added)

If not properly posted, you CAN legally carry in the places you listed (in Ks). Our city building, city PD main lobby, Sheriff's Dept. main lobby, one of our banks, and all of our churches remain unposted (quite intentionally).

Problem is, those places are posted here. That's why I mentioned them. Also the banks, but I do most of my banking on the internet and at ATMs. And all the city and county offices are also posted here. Granted, not everywhere, but they are here.

Bummer, wrong side of Hays I guess -- one thing about it, I know our church won't post

1. Know the your local and state laws that govern your rights to carry!
2. Find two to three lawyers and put them on speed dial. Find the ones that drive very expensive cars and own mansions in at least two states
3. Go get some training!
4. Carry every day like you would your keys and wallet/purse
5. Adjust your mindset that you are not a cop. You are not afforded the protection of the law, lawyers or the insurance, etc.
5. Maintain your situational awareness at all times, location, people, your weapon
6. If you carry IWB or OWB, extra mags, etc. don't fidget with them openly. 7. Practice concealment every second that you carry even when you're in a state that permits open carry

Regarding #4. A Lawyer gave me that advice (which I'm only giving as words of wisdom here). "If you only carry occasionally, then you must have been inching for a fight. Even if that's furthest from the truth, it the perception that the jury of non-carry, non-gun owners will maintain throughout the trail. It's not a matter of right or wrong, but what is less wrong." Personally it's BS, but its reality and pragmatic in our daily life.

Same with me.

Why? Just look at your local newspaper and see where crimes are committed? Not always on the Crack side of town. Infact, they are home invasions, stores, parking lots, areas where the common person visits on a typical day.

Same here. Today a friend and his wife & daughter stopped by. I hadn't seen him in many months. I was out in the yard near the back of my truck. When they came into the yard, he pointed, and said, "Why have you got that on your hip?"
I said, "Because I'm too old to fight." Then I explained the rest of the story, and included that in Texas it is legal for me to carry openly on my own property, so I didn't have to cover it up. He gave me a thumbs up!
