Who makes 10mm?

I was looking into getting a 10mm and know that both Glock and Kimber makes 10mm. I can only find one SW in that caliber, the 310 Night Guard.

Any other suggestions and or recommendations for a 10mm?

Thanks.

My first 10mm was a Colt Delta Elite, and it seemed to follow that it is only 1911 frames that I have seen it in since.

This is an excellent round, but I think it should be kept in a heavier frame for control and comfort.

Glock Model 20

I can't say enough good about my Glock Model 20. Recoil is not a problem. Functions great. Always there when you need it. Only downside is that it's an oddball caliber as far as ammo goes, so if you need lead free and/or frangible for any reason it is very difficult to find.

I think Taurus just came out with a new one for hunting. It was on Handguns TV show this week Outdoor Channel.

Either one. Kimber is gonna cost you more. Look into the Glock. Ted Nugent carries 10mm concealed. In his opinion the best round for carry and outdoors. The Nudge!!

10mm STI

Put aside Glock, Kimber. STI makes this weapon and it was the nicest pistol, I ever shot.

It dawned on me a while back I was trying to negotiate a 10mm but couldn't get him to budge on the price.

STI makes a beauty. Action is smoother than a babies backside. There are a fewused out there and yes a little expensive, but not many give them up. The guy I was trying to buy from shot competive and simply didn't need it. He wasn't like me that got attached.

To digress a little bit, I use the Galco Miami Classic to carry a Glock 22. Perhaps I should get a Glock 20 in 10mm so I can get a little closer to the holster's roots.

The closest you can get to its' roots would be getting a EAA Witness in 10mm.:to_pick_ones_nose:

The Bren Ten was a CZ-75 based gun and that's as close as you're gonna get nowadays.

Personally, I'll carry my guns in a .50BMG ammo can half filled with gravel before Galco sees another penny of my money.

They made it clear to me TWICE that they weren't interested in taking my money, so I'm not going to try to shove it down their throats.

I had a burglary back in '98 during which most of my gun leather was stolen. That included 2 Miami Classic shoulder rigs. Once the insurance company settled up, I called Galco to put in an order for about a half a dozen belt holsters with matching mag carriers and 3 shoulder rigs. When I tried to place an order for a Miami Classic system for the Witness (I have one in .45 that I liked to use when working in the gunshop I moonlighted at during this period), the 'customer service' representative on the other end told me, "We don't make a holster for that gun," in a very condescending tone (like they thought my choice of firearm was not worthy of their holsters or something) and HUNG UP ON ME. A week later, after I'd cooled off and wrote it off as someone on their last day trying to screw their soon to be former employer, I tried again and the EXACT SAME THING happened with another 'representative'.

Once I reentered the Earth's atmosphere and came back down to the ground, I looked up Don Hume's phone number, called them and the nice lady there was MORE than happy to help me work out what I needed for my various guns with the complete order ending up sitting in my living room inside a week.

Durring the first season and a half or so, he carried a Dormas and Dixon Bren-Ten in a shoulder holster made by the Famous Jackass Leather Company. Parts for the Bren-Ten became an issue, so somewhere in the second season, IIRC, he switched to a Colt Delta-Elite 10mm. He continued to use the shoulder holster system. The Famous Jackass Leather Company is now known as Galco, and the holster that Don Johnson used is now called the Miami Classic.

:offtopic: Don Johnson also carryed a compact pistol in an ankle holster, I want to say it was a Colt 380, but I am not sure. He did use a Steyr-AUG rifle and a Stryker-12 shotgun in various episodes.

Another interesting bit about that. When they were trying to set up the holster for Don, they knew what kind they wanted but no one knew what it was called, who made it or where to find it. They called a custom leather shop who tried to make it but never got it to fit quite right (apparently the little things make a big difference on this holster). Somewhere along the way the leather shop (I think) was looking for parts for the holster (fasteners, buckles, something) and one of the suppliers or subsuppliers also supplied the same part to Jackass leather and recognized what they were trying to make.

To think they probably could have just picked up a copy of Guns and Ammo and figured out who made the holster!

The Bren Ten was supposedly a great gun but the company couldn't make them. As I understand several were shipped without magazines, with a note saying that the mags would be shipped later. These owners never got their mags and now, if you can find them, they go for over $140.00.

I quit using Galco because of cost, plus the newer holsters I've seen just don't measure up to what they used to make. That said the Galco Phoenix is IMO the best leather holster for a 4" Smith 686 or Ruger GP100 I've ever owned.

I know the guy that blued the 2 prototypes that were showed off at the SHOT SHOW and he has told me that whole bunch of involved with the gun was super paranoid about the guns before they were unveiled. They wouldn't even bring a whole gun to him to blue. He ended up bluing parts and pieces in several small lots.

Detonics Combatmaster .45 acp. Mark VI in the ankle holster (now legal in Georgia).

During the first season-and-a-half, "Sonny Crockett" carried his Bren Ten in a Ted Blocker Lifeline shoulder rig. Supposedly, Blocker got the call because the producers of Miami Vice could not locate Richard Gallagher, who had changed the name of his company from The Famous Jackass Leather Company to Galco. Galco subsequently supplied Jackass-style rigs, which evolved over the years to become the Miami Classic. The Bren Ten was replaced first with a S&W 645, and then a 4506. Galco claims that Don Johnson didn't like the fit of the Lifeline, but if you watch episodes of Johnson's later cop show, Nash Bridges, you'll see him packing his custom 1911 in a Blocker Lifeline. Vltor, an Arizona company best known for AR accessories, announced that they would produce a new Bren Ten, at the 2008 SHOT Show. Pre-production guns were shown at both the '09 and '10 shows, and latest word is that the guns will start shipping in late October. Galco has added a Jackass style shoulder rig for the Bren Ten to their line of custom holsters, and Ted Blocker will make Nash Bridges-style Lifelines for the Bren Ten upon request. Like the Miami Classic, the present-day Lifeline looks little like the ones that were made in the '80s.

If you buy a 1911 in 40 all you have to do is deapen the chamber for 10mil and buy some mags.

Actually, no, that won't work.

Your cheapest way to do it would be to have a second barrel fitted in 10mm along with a set of the proper weight recoil spring for the level of 10mm loads you intend on shooting and some mags that will take the 10mm. I THINK the ejection port on the slide will be the same size no matter what caliber you end up starting with. You ARE, however, limited, as far as I know, to a 10mm/.40S&W slide because they have the same basic dimensions on the case head, so you don't have to screw around with the extractor but may have to change the ejector. If you try to convert a 9mm/.38 Super or .45 slide, you gotta change the extractor, too- if the breech face is compatible and I don't know if it is or not.

To tell the truth, you best bet would be a separate slide, barrel and recoil spring assembly. I did this with my EAA Witness (I bought a .45 Witness that now also has a .40S&W, 9mm and .38 Super slide fitted for its' frame) and I've seen some COLT 1911 case sets that were laid out in this manner and I'll probably end up getting a .38 Super slide (I've got the barrel and recoil spring, guide and plug) for a 9mm Combat Commander I have.

To save money, some companies use the same slide for .40/10mm and .38 Super, as the case rim diameters are very similar. Some use the same slide for Super and 9mm, for the same reason. You could conceivably make a gun that would work for Super, .40, and 10, with only different barrels, mags, and probably, extractors, if the slide has a .40/10 breechface.
In converting a .40 to 10mm, I'd be more concerned with the rating of the mainspring than the recoil spring. Use of full-power or heavier mainsprings reduces the need for a heavy recoil spring, and the latter can adversely affect function.
