Who else here has a Sig P238??

I have been having jams and a couple cosmetic complaints about this gun since day one which is quite a disappointment seeing how it's a $600+ .380. Called sig about the bur on the end of the barrel where the bullets slide in and was told it was normal and also told it was "normal" to have jams at first. They told me to leave the slide locked back overnight and give it a good cleaning which I did and still.... two more jams today. Anyone else have this gun and been told anything different? I will post pics here soon with the cosmetic issues I have with this gun also....

My wife has a P238
I think Sig had some issue on the very early pistols produced.. My wife's is S/N XX71XX and has had NO issues with her pistol at all from the start.. She has a couple of hundred rounds through it at this point.

If your S/N is around hers or Higher, then I'd insist on Sig taking a look at it. (I'd probably insist regardless of the S/N).. Like you said, it's a $600 gun (my wife got hers for $450 BTW), If it has issues, they should correct any it!!!

Also. Here are the pics I was talking about. In real life the blemishes are VERY apparent. Again, extremely disappointing to me in a $600+ .380. My Glock still looks brand new with over 1,000 rounds through it while this only has 250.

SIG P238 Problem and Resolution

I posted this on another forum:
________________________________________
I bought the HD version of the P238 in April of this year; I liked the looks, the stainless and the SIGLITE Nite Sights. I handled the Ruger, Taurus and Kahr 380’s and just liked the feel of the SIG better. At the range, the P238 was very accurate. But right from the beginning I had FTE’s on almost every mag and the slide would often not lock open. (This has been discussed ad nauseam.) I waited until I had fired 200 rounds through it (50 rounds of PMC and 150 rounds of 102gr Remington Golden Sabers) before calling SIG and explaining the problems I was encountering. They emailed me a UPS overnight prepaid shipping label along with mailing instructions. I dropped it off at UPS on June 24th. Today, July 29th, I was packing my range bag and about to head out the door when the FedEx truck showed up with my SIG. Perfect timing. I added 108 rounds of 380 (enough for 18 mags) to the range bag. The P238 fired all of them flawlessly. WOOT! No FTE’s and the slide locked back at the end of every mag. The Gunsmith’s comments: Replaced slide – Upgraded extractor. Adjusted barrel. Function checked and test fired with no malfunctions.
SIG customer service added a letter thanking me for my patience and including a 20% off coupon for any SIG SAUER accessory purchased directly from SIG.
One last thing: I sent the firearm to them dirty as requested. I included 1 mag with the firearm. It came back with 2. I now have 5 mags.
I went to the range last Friday (the 6th) and shoved another 16 mags through it with zero problems. And I did this after firing those first 18 mags and leaving the P238 purposely dirty. And just as I had done with those first 18 mags, I fired the last 5 mags as fast as I could from the waist just to see what it would do.

This is my 4th SIG and the first one I had to send back to them. I was a little put off at having to send it back to get it right but then again, I could have bought a Toyota or pretty much any other brand of firearm and had the same problem. It was worth it to me to not get my undies in a bunch until they had a chance to make it right. Now had that not happened, I would have been trashing them all over the internet forums. After 204 consecutive rounds of 102gr Remington Golden Sabers, I feel as confident as I can about carrying a 380ACP. Bigger pills are nice but sometimes a small piece is what I have to carry because of the clothes thing. Angrypenguin, I hope you get this reslolved to your satisfaction.

Does yours also have the cosmetic blemishes that are on mine? And does yours have the bur that is shown in the vid?

It seems like our gun and your gun was manufactured pretty close to the same time.

Ours does NOT have the Ramp banging going on..
When moving the barrel by hand, It looks to have a sheet or two of paper thickness gap between the barrel and the magazine. I also checked the magazine and I do not see any marks on the magazine.
We also have two Colt Mustang Magazines that we purchased, and we DO have some Fail to load issues with them, but the SIG Magazine works 100% of the time.

I also checked under the hammer and I do not see any blemish on the frame under the hammer..

I'd say go back to Sig with the video attached to an e-mail and get them to work their magic on your issues.

I hope it helps!!!

.

AP, I have the HD model. (Just sayin'.) It does not have the blemishes on the bottom of the slide that you show in your pic. The ramp does indeed have the nick in the corner as shown in the video. Because of the number of trouble free rounds I've shot since it came back from SIG I can only say I don't know if this is/was a problem with my P238's performance or not or whether the new slide eliminated that as a problem. BTW: the new slide is a tad wider than the previous one. I saw a pic on another forum of the old and new slides side x side; the slide that replaced the old one is visibly (but only just) wider. Once again, this is the HD slide. I don't know if they have had any problems with the other models such as yours.

Thanks, I do love the pistol. I think its beautiful and I shoot very consistent with it. I just knew it was going to be trouble when the gun would not even fire the first round I tried and then jammed within the first 6 rounds through it. I do understand that as with anything there are going to be a few that have issues so I am not bashing on Sig or the P238. I also feel that Sig is going to make this right. They have issued a next day air shipping label and they are going to send it back to me 2nd day air so I am 110% happy with what they are doing thus far

My P238 was born on July 30, 2009. I have a significant blemish on the bottom left rear of the slide and the same blemish as your's on the bottom front of the slide about one-half inch from the muzzle. Also have the dent/chip on the rear lower right feed ramp of the barrel. And I've experienced just about every malfunction that's been reported on the Sig Forum. The light strike problem was fixed by upgrading to Wolff's 12# recoil and firing pin spring set. But a couple of days ago, I had 10 malfunctions in 100 rounds...FTFs/slide locked back with round in mag, FTEs, and slide failing to lock back on empty mag. So I'm calling Sig today to get the okay to send it back...again.

I bought this gun for summer carry during t-shirt and shorts weather. But there is no way I'd carry this gun in its present condition. It's absolutely unreliable. And I wouldn't feel right selling it either...even "as is".

There should be a lemon law for guns! lol. I also bought mine for carry when I am dressed down. Like you though I have absolutely ZERO confidence in this gun thus far. I hope yours and my situation with this gun pans out in our favor.

I may have a solution to your problem with the p238 and its issue with not feeding correctly. check the bottom right corner of the feed ramp. If you can see wear then the barrel might be hitting the clip on its way back to the starting position. Check youtube for a clearer picture and explanation.

I put another 175 rounds through mine yesterday, with a total of 1000 + since new not one problem!
Love this little gun!

I have gotten rid of the gun but I called sig and told them about the ramp issue and I was told that it was NORMAL! They also told me the the wear I have pictured is normal also......

Pengiun, do you know what the date code was on the case for the gun? I spoke to them today asking for pre-sale info and mentioned all the trouble that is hit and miss on the net about his piece. They said that there was a magazine fix done a few months ago, and now there is a running change on changing the recoil spring. It sounded like the spring change was really recent.

I don't recall but it was a recent release to the first post I made. I think it is BS that they told me all this was normal (the wear, jamming, and ramp issue). A gun that costs as much as it did for what it is should not have issues like that. They had 1,000's of the same complaints I am sure from what I have read when I was researching. If they were more upfront about it and not lie to me I would be much more happier. Honestly it will be a LONG time if ever that I consider buying another sig. The whole deal left a bad taste in my mouth.

They were quick to give me a shipping label paid by them to send it in even though that once they sent it back it had EXACTLY the same issues. The gun was just as bad if not worse when I got it back.

BTW, BIG thumbs up on your screen name!
