Which striker?

Recently I have developed a bit of a hip problem my doctor attributes to the nickel plated series 70 that rides on my hip most of the time.

I switched to a PPK/S & my hip problem has largely gone away but now I feel undergunned.

Last night I finally got around to reading this months issue of The American Rifleman & saw a Springfield XD on the cover & it intrigued me.
With the exception of a couple of black rifles all my guns are “pretty”. Deep blued steel, nickel & nice wood is what makes a gun IMO consequently I never gave the striker guns a 2nd though. Scratch that, I have actively ignored them.

Now I think their lighter weight may be the answer to my problems but alas I know nothing about them.

My question is who makes the best striker? Glock obviously has the name but just because they were 1st it doesn’t make them best. My primary concern is durability & reliability. Price is not a consideration, I spare no expense on equipment designed to keep me this side of the grass

Thanks for any & all info!

Either the Glock or the XD are great! I personally would avoid the new 4th generation Glocks. I own several Glock pistols, most are 3rd generation and I have one 2nd generation. I would not hesitate to stake my life on any one of them! Check out the video, it has been posted on here a few times;

I have both Glocks and XD's. (The older style XD) I believe that each is as good as the other as far as quality and reliability goes. The XD has more safety features on it than the Glock, but that is more of a personal preference as far as which one you feel safe carrying with one in the tube. Size wise my G26 is about as chunky as my XD-9 Sub compact. Both shoot about the same, accuracy wise. The XD runs a 3" barrel and the Glock a 3.5" barrel. I tend to carry the XD more because I feel more safe with one in the tube.

Perhaps you just need to get a gun to wear cross draw so that you have one on both sides. That might balance it out.

Hi Boomer,
I hope a lighter gun will help solve your hip problems.
I narrowed my search down to either the Glock or the XD-SC. I think they are just about equal in accuracy and reliability. I do like the extra backstrap safety on the XD like handgonnetoter mentioned, but the final selling point for me was how it felt in my hand. Somehow the angle of the grip on the Glock didn't feel right, but the XD-SC fits me purrrrfect.
You really need to either borrow or rent both of them to see what works best for you. They are both great guns though.

Thanks guys, I feel like a bit of a putz because obviously the Glock vs XD argument has been raging already.

How about I stir the pot a little (or is it more of the same). What about the Smith M&P & Sigma? Or am I beating a dead horse & a striker pistol is a striker pistol?

In a wheelchair most the time, but even when I wasn't I still preferred a shoulder holster cross draw with a forward cant. I use the type that do not need to be strapped to your belt, Galco’s Jackass Rig. It also would help with the hip problem, no more weight on the hip. The Smith and Wesson M&P is nice (Personal experience) stay away from the Sigma.

What's wrong with the Sigma? My wife loves hers. I've only shot it once.

Glock is first on the list for the reason you stated as your First concern: Durability and reliability. Tests have been done where it was dropped in dirt, picked up and kept firing. Some say it's the ugliest gun out there, but it works!

I have shot a Sigma before... It was many moons ago (before the Glock vs Smith lawsuit) shortly after it came out. I only short 1 clip full at a B27.
I recall it being ergonomic & marginally accurate.

I own several 3rd gen Glocks and I love them. My little sister has a full size XD and I like shooting it as well. A buddy of mine has a Sigma and well. I hate it. The trigger on his is a double hinged thing and I hate the feel of it. To me it pulls funny. I prefer the Glock trigger in a trigger design. Just my 2 cents.
