I am looking to upgrade my Taurus PT140. I am looking at Springfield XDM or a Glock.. in either .40 or 9mm. Not sure which way to go...

Full size, mid size or compact? You can't really go wrong with either an XDm or a Glock. I suggest that you go to a range that has rentals and try them all out. Find which one shoots best for you and if you plan to carry it, see which one conceals the best and is most comfortable FOR YOU. I emphasize that last bit because each person had a bit different size, shape, and the bones in their hands and wrist align differently.

9mm will allow you to get back on target a little bit quicker than 40 and with good ammo they are just about equal in the damage they do.

XDm and Glock are great guns. Having said all that, My choice and suggestion is a Glock 26. Glock's are reliable, replacement parts can be found at lots of places, they are accurate enough for self defense distances. The 26 is small enough to be concealable but still accepts any Glock 9mm magazine.

XD or Glock would be good choices, as would an M&P and I would say they are all pretty equal so the main difference is which one feels better and aims naturally in your hand.
Try to shoot one of each or at the very least hold them to get an idea.

I have the XDM 9mm compact and LOVE it. 13rds or 19rds....never had an issue, shoots great and LOTS of accessories available.

^^^^This.

Only you can determine what is best for you, and those two are competent picks.

For what its worth I own both, a G23 and a XDM 4.5 both in .40 S&W and I feel the XDM is the better gun. I really like the trigger on the XDM, also the accuracy is better, I like the stock sights on the XDM, I have XS big dots on my Glock, they are quick but not as accurate. I am switching to Heinie sights on the Glock. I also like the stainless mags in the springfield! Both are fine guns and work well for carry, Yes I carry the XDM also! I never feel out gunned! It comes down to which gun feels better to you and fits the way you carry.

I have both and love them, that being said I think I would choose the XD.

On a side note, Academy sports has a smith and wesson SD series (not the sigma) that is almost an exact clone of a glock, that has some small upgrades and its on sale for $299. If you can find one id give it a look as well.

Brad, you really need to go to a indoor range and try to shoot both, ether weapon is a good choice for a carry or range gun, one thing about the subcompact Glocks, 26 9mm and 27 40, is the grip without a extention is short your pinky will hang off and if you get the grip extentions, you may as well have the mid size, ether the 19 or 23, while the sub compact XD has both mags, a short 12 rd and long 17 rd, ether way you go you really should shoot them first if possable................

I find that the 26 with a pierce +2 grip extension gives me a good grip but is a little easier to conceal than the 19. The angle of the floor plate is different and prints less.
