Which one?

I'm trying to decide on my first ccw. Leaning towards 9mm. Suggestions?

I recommend you handle and shoot as many guns as you can before buying. Some places rent guns, or maybe shoot with friends. I started wanting a Glock, then LCP, then LC9. Ended up with Ruger SR9c after about 9 months. Love it

Yes you handle as many as you can but if I am reading between the lines correctly you are asking what caliber. Stay 9mm or bigger. The 9 has cheap ammo and you can shoot and practice more also there are some great defense ammo out there. The 45has great stopping power but ammo is more and of couse there is more kick or recoil. The 40 cal is right in the middle of the 9mm and 45. Several considerations here they all can do the job but remember you can't stop what you can't hit.

I prefer 9mm.

Bullets are cheaper, meaning lots of practice at a lower price/round.

The newer self-defense 9mm rounds are awesome.

9mm's come in single stack (LC9 for example) if a thinner profile is necessary and double stack (G26 for example) if thicker is not a problem.

I sold my lcp after being talked into it . Hated it .. Then spent more money n got a revolver n I live it now ... Make sure you like what you get even a legal FTf trade or sale might take months lol . Then more cash for what you want rent a few you like then buy one .

You'll spend less money buying the firearm you LIKE rather than the firearm you WANT. I'm echoing most of the other posts.... try as many as you possibly can and get the one that feels right both in your hand unloaded and while shooting. Also.... may I ask why you are limiting yourself to just one caliber size? I'm not saying its wrong or anything, but the gun you like might not end up being a 9mm.

I learned the hard expensive route . I could have bought a lcr also at the time I bought my lcp . I love the revolver I got , but in the first time around could have gotten a better brand .. Now I'm down 100$ n took months to sell my lcp . Make sure SURE you like what you buy cause when you take it out the door it's not like a 30 day return lol

Agree with the above, handle a variety of different guns but I'd recommend something that has at least 10 rounds. One thing that Glock has going for it is that you can buy a .40 cal like the G23 and get a Lonewolf 9mm barrel for it. Plink all you want with cheaper 9mm ammo then put the .40 cal barrel back on for CCW. Best of both worlds!

there have been countless number of these threads around. i always tell them to go and rent guns or shoot friends, handle ones in gun stores. find something that fits you and that you like. there will never be one answer when you ask this question, glock guys with always insist on buying this glock or that glock and nothing else, 1911 guys will always insist on buying a 1911 because of their beauty and great grip angle, revolver guys will always insist on getting a revolver because they are "safer" than these polymer guns. i think you get the idea...
