Which .308

I am wanting a semi-auto .308 rifle, have two ar15s now so the ar10 seems like the way to go. My only problem is my budget is about $850. Would like to get some feedback and reviews on CETMEs and SAR8, if I could find one within my budget. Also like the M1A, but again out of my budget. If some of you could give me some pros and cons on the rifles I have mentioned, and any others that I may have not. Thanks...

Take your $850, put it in an envelope labeled M1A. Add $ to it as often as possible. Stash envelope in safe. When you have the funds, buy the M1A. They are just way to much fun to pass up! Granted you will start looking into reloading (if your not into it already), they are expensive to feed!

If you're looking for a military-style rifle then I think you need to either increase your budget or try to find something used. Tough to find a new military .308 in your price range. I paid $1300 for my M1A and I don't think you'l find anything much cheaper than that. If you wanted to go the AK-47 route you can probably still find some Saiga .308s out there for sale. They're well under $850, even if you wanted to convert it from it's original sporter/hunting configuration into something more along the lines of a traditional AK look.

You can find plenty of semi-auto .308 hunting rifles in your price range. Remington for instance.

I have several Cetme's and FAL's that I purchased for less the $800 each and have never had a problem with any of them. The thing I like about the Cetme's is the way the feel while holding them that and the fact that you can get magazines for $2 apiece helps. I have put at least 15k rds through all 5 of mine and have not had any problems with any of the.

Sold My M1A 5 years ago. Took me several years to purchase the ODCMP Garand "Special". 8 rounds of 30/06 vs 20 .308's. I've committed to longer-range practice...

You're right about the CETMEs. They have a good rep and are fairly inexpensive.
