Where's The Ammo?

Any where to handgun ammo these days? Seeing backorder on most of the ammo shopping websites. Our local stores and Wal-Mart are totally out. Some of the ammo may not be available till toward the end of the year. Pretty wild! :shout:

panic buying and hoarding. people are afraid that things are going to get banned so everyone is buying everything they can...going into debt to do it, camping out in front of stores waiting for stuff to go on the shelves. I've talked to people that have over 100k rounds in several calibers hoarded and are looking for more. Most stores are saying that they're getting "normal" shipments in...I've actualy seen this at Walmart - they'll put 25 boxes of ammo on the shelf, and it'll be gone in 10 minutes to people that have been waiting in line for hours. I don't think ammo manufacturers are going to raise capacity because this is temporary panic buying. eventually it'll die down and ammo will be available again especially since all the hoarders won't be buying for a long time. Just have to wait it out.

DHS has 1.4Billion rounds. Personally I think the ammo manufacturers should act a bit more like 2nd amendment supporters and produce government and citizen ammo in a 1 to 1 ratio.

I read the other day where the ammo companies said a very small percentage (6 or 7%) of their output was going to government contracts. The rest is going to the civilian side. So hoarding is the problem.

Make friends with your local Wal-mart folks. Find out when they get thier orders in. And check your local sporting good store. Finding out shipment dates is key. I have had quite a bit of success lately.

I've been ordering online with only a slight back order time!! Cabela's has been the best!! SportsmanGuide is another, they're out and back in....
Ammoman.com is out for now, but has some calibers.

Government buys mostly.40 cal. The total output of ammo manufacturers is about 1 billion rounds a week. I think it's more civilian hoarding than 1 large government order. I love to blame government as much as the next guy, but I think we're doing this one to ourselves.

I received my order of 500 rounds if 45 yesterday from Sportmans Guide. Took about a month from the time I ordered.
Unlike CHD, they're not price gouging.
I recommend finding a place to order on-line and wait.

Hornady isn't selling a huge percentage to the government. I'm guessing that they aren't much different than any other company. (But could certainly be wrong; its just a guess.) Link Removed

Here in Michigan Walmart stores are SLOWLY restocking ammo. You just have to get to the store at the right time. I have been able to find plenty of 40s and 38. I don't think you will see any 9mm for a LONG time. Good luck.

Gander Mtn has weekly deliveries coming in. Makes it nice as you don't have to deal with the drivel at Wallyworld. Our local store gets ammo in every Wednesday night. Get there when they open Thursday and there's a fair selection, for a while. Price is high but not outrageous

I used to service, repair and rebuild industrial machine tools. I have rebuilt around 100 machines for Federal Cartridge. Back in the early 90's there was a panic buy on ammo and we rebuilt and installed 2 new lines in the 9MM line. That was the hot ammo at that time. Federal Cartridge was running all out to try to keep up with the demand. Later things leveled out and then they were not producing as much because the demand was down and nobody was buying because people had all the ammo they would need for years. Federal Cartridge had to cut back on production and were on lean times. I no longer have any contacts at Federal Cartridge or I could find out more

I believe this is going on now. Every time some lib-o-rat or obummer opens his mouth about gun and ammo restrictions they drive up sales in the industry. They have become the best salesman for the ammo and arms industry. People are starting to wake up that the lib-o-rats and obummer Will take our guns if they can. Maybe some are having voters remorse with obummer. What really upsets me is the fact that most were warned about obummer. Some simply have buried their head in the sand and did not or would not believe anything that was said about their little tin god obummer.

For those in the Grand Rapids, MI, area, the new Cabela's opening in Grandville, MI, March 21 at 11:00 AM will have a complete stock of both ammo AND firearms - including AR's. Yes, there will be some limits on how much you can purchase at any one time (not yet determined), but the shelves will be FULL.

My basement has been full for years. I've been telling people for years, buy a couple of boxes when they are on sale!!
Hoarder? No!
Prepared, yes!!
So, give it a few months, the market will relax again.
Remember when Prez Slick Willy put the 10 rd mag limit?
Ammo disappeared then too!
