where have all the LEOs gone

Foir being BFE Ohio, we went from having speeding as the major crime to have B & Es, 8 over the last week or so. These are not crimes of oppurtunity, these were planned. One local had his new TIG welder stolen, the theives had to unwire it from the main panel and then get it in to the back of a pickup. That unit weighed about 600 pounds.

The local fire chief lost $6,000 in hand tools to these theives while the chief was working maybe 100 yards away.

We do have a sheriff, but they take reports via the phone, we haven't seen a deputy around here in more than a year.

So I carry my SIG while I am working on my property, Katy is carrying my J Frame, and Rufis barks at everything.

As to use a song from the days of Peter, Paul and Mary, Where have all the LEOs gone, long time passing....

Yes I know congress has passed the bill to get the police and the teachers back to work, but when will the money show up and how much more am I going to have to pay in tax to have these peoiple.

Are the state boys investigating? Sounds to me like you have an organized crime operation going on there. Probably just a few ner'-do-ells who decided to team up to take advantage of a vulnerable locality.

Just a guess.

The state doesn't investigate these situations due to the lack of personnel, as of a few days ago, our local crime watch kicked in. We have one person who doesn't own a gun.

I don't think we want to know how much us and our kids will pay, in taxation, for this kind of governmental stupidity.:cray:

With what congress appropriated, the trickle down to my area won't be that much.

We have a new twist to the perps, they are kicking in doors, using bolt cutters and last Thursday or Friday while directly confronting a home owner a LEO shows up. The perp got the drop on the LEO. The perp tried to fire on the LEO who was doing the duck and cover routine and the perp's gun either wasn't loaded or it jammed.

The perp got away.

Because of the Castle Doctrine in the state, there is no question that this perp may end up in a body bag. We just need to find him in a situation that we have the upper hand.

LEO's don't prevent crime ( unless they just happen to be driving by ). They are there to do the paperwork and file the reports. They then may follow up on the report and make an arrest.

WE may prevent crime by being armed and alert!

Most municipalities knew ahead of time that only one year's worth of stimulus money for things like salaries would run out fast and make local budgets harder to keep. I believe it was in 2009 that President Obama was in Columbus Ohio congradulating them for hiring police officers using the stimulus money. What was not heard as loud was the same officers getting laid off in 2010 due to a lack of funds and budget cuts. I don't have the stats, but I would wager that crime will go up slightly with the ecomony being what it currently is.

I recently had my local pharmacy robbed at gunpoint last month for pain medications. I have no local police force in my township and the BG's of course, know this as well. I am "protected" by State police, who are located twice the distance away from the closest local police station in the adjoining township. A little self protection will hopefully go a long way.

We've had a problem with theft of tools, fuel, and various accessories from farm equipment in my area of north Missouri. It was a known group involving a family consisting of a couple of convicted felons plus boyfriends and inlaws. The local sheriff didn't have the resources or fortitude to nail them and it finally got the attention of the State Patrol. Lots of stolen property was found and the bad guys got a slap that had no effect on them. After a year or so of vacation, they were back at it. I let the word out that there was an open season on thieves and haven't found anything missing lately. This bunch has shown me it does no good to threaten them. If they find out you turned them in, they'll burn your barn or shoot livestock. The only way to deal with them is with a confrontation that ends with violence. I make it known that I carry a gun at all times and am willing to use it as needed.
