Where can I find a list of places you "can't" carry a CCW?

I am very new to conceal carry and I have been trying to find a list of building/areas where you are not allowed to carry a concealed weapon. The majority of the time I am carrying I am hunting but would like to carry more during my daily life as well.

I would appreciate any info regarding this.

Thank you.

Google your state gun carry laws should have what u need I live in pa so I typed pa gun carry laws and look for your state org site

Handgunlaw.us is always a good starting point, especially if you travel. It's kept very up to date with many categories of information, and links to the pertinent parts of state laws.

I assume you mean "per the code of laws" in your state, and I think the replies so far have told you where the defined off limit list can be found. Other than that, if they have the proper sign prescribed by the state's code of laws, there is no need for a list--they are telling you front and center and no one is going to be compiling a list of every business that has such a restriction--tedious and changing all the time.

My suggestion would be to contact your States Office of Attorney General, or your States Legislative Representative. There are two reasons for this, one is you get it from the horses mouth, so to speak. Secondly, many states are constantly modifying their laws, and those modifications don't always show up on the internet or sites that are supposed to keep track.

Although I no longer live in Texas, as a Concealed Carry Instructor still certified there, I get updates every Sept. after a legislative session. These updates are important as they may include additional areas that are "Off-Limits", or information on formerly off-limits places that now allow carry.

One additional location you may find what you are looking for is at a Police Supply. I am talking about non-city or county owned businesses that sell supplies to Police, and Security personnel. Penal Codes for your state, in it's most current form should be available for about $40 - $50 a copy.

where you cant carry

That list probably varies from state to state. For what ever state you need to know about find who controls the ccws (state police or who ever)and go to their web site and you should be able to find the information. In Illinois you cannot carry at all the Governor and politicians do not believe in the peoples rights. in a lot of States you cant carry in federal buildings, national parks, liquor stores, bars, schools.

Check your local and state laws. I hate to say it but find it in print and make a copy because even police, lawyers, and judges don't know the laws.

In Colorado, the law reads that anywhere there is a metal detector at the entrance is a "Gun Free Zone". That is a fair rule-of-thumb.

Need to brush up on your Spanish Bro. NO WEAPONS ALLOWED is Spanish for Concealed Carry WITH MOUTH SHUT. Like I always say if something happens and you need the gun that little sign will mean nothing

Thank you all for the info. It has been very helpful. I did ask the Sheriff's department here and the only info they could give me was anywhere that it is posted (private property) and public buildings. What was really confusing me is what they seem to be calling a "public Building" is really federal buildings like the courthouse etc. I have found out a lot of info off of the responses on here and I really appreciate the info.

Thank you all very much. Being new on this forum I was not sure what I would find out but you all have been very helpful.

Most government buildings...read the local laws where you plan to carry.

Read the laws in the state where you carry. There are federal laws regarding federal property and buildings. A common place to avoid is the post office. All federal buildings or parts of buildings leased by the federal government are prohibited. In most states, government buildings are prohibited locations. These usually have signs, but not always. Our county administration building does not permit any weapons including knives. The sheriff's deputy does not pat you down at the entrance. I avoid the building and vote absentee.
It is probably smart to keep up with all weapon laws in your state. Some places you can get arrested for being caught carrying a knife or pepper spray.
