When cops go bad

What or who is causing cops to act in this manner. Is this all part of some experiment? Is DHS behind it? Why are non-threatening and non-violent ordinary citizens being given a beat down and why are people just standing around when they should be stomping these rogue pos cops to within inches of their lives? Don't get me wrong I respect police and the career they chose to do but when they think they are above the law and abuse people's rights I think they need to be disposed of in one fashion or another.

This video will piss you off but it is worth watching although it is lengthy.

for some folks that badge makes bullies or already bullies hiding behind a badge
just another sign of a very sick corrupted society

Just like anything else , there are bad cops and good cops. Anyone can make a video that shows only the bad, but there is plenty of good that cops do too. And I thank the good ones for their service!!

Every group has bad apples, and as long as both sides are disclosed and all the facts are presented tapes like this are good to weed out those few bad ones but during my many years as a medic I dealt with many officers and was proud to call many of them my friends. I can tell you that most of them are good people doing a very hard and unappreciated job. Don't let the few skew you view of them as a whole.

The media makes a big deal when a cop goes bad because it sells. But in reality, not many cops are bad, and when there is one, they get fired and blasted in the media.

Police jobs are very competitive and departments have no problem firing a cop who "goes bad" when they can replace the bad one easily and therefore not continue to damage their image.

For the last police job I applied for, there were 2000 applicants. Many of us are very qualified, hard working, and honest people, but being a nice cop isnt going to make the news. The cop who was extremely nice to me yesterday certainly did not make the news.

No, I don't think all cops act in this manner and I know some cool ones in my area (unless you go into the city) but I see more and more of this going on. Way too much of it. People having their windows broken and being dragged out of their cars at dui or border checkpoints for exercising their rights or refusing to cooperate such as giving ID when there was no reason in the first place for the police to be confronting an individual, cops macing student protesters for no reason, cops arresting and brutalizing other protesters for holding anti-Oblabla posters, regular people and news crews filming cops (which is not against the law) getting brutalized and having their equipment broken etc. I am just trying to point out a growing trend and I agree that most cops are doing their jobs within the parameters of the law but I do believe the number of them going bad is increasing as this country continues to fall apart economically and socially.

And in New Orleans (as elsewhere) those "good" cops cheerfully covered for the bad ones... for YEARS.

Trusting the police is like picking up every snake you see on the assumption that it's PROBABLY not venomous.

The police have lost the confidence of large segments of the public. It's nobody's fault but their own.

When they engage in very ostentatious shows of support for degenerate thugs like Tony Abbate and Daniel Harless, they make clear to the public that when the choice is between a bad cop and the public, they'll choose the bad cop every time.

Don't let the few skew you view of them as a whole.
I let the support of the "few" by the many "skew" my view of them as a whole.

I'll never forget the Chicago Lodge of the FOP going on National Public Radio to DEMAND an exemption for cops from laws which disarm those convicted of domestic abuse. Of course defenders of the police claim it never happened. Good thing I ordered a transcript....

The cop who was extremely nice to me yesterday certainly did not make the news.
Neither did Jon Burge... literally for DECADES. Maybe because he used "nice" torture on suspects? Perhaps the device he used to apply electricity to suspects' testicles had a Hello Kitty sticker on it...

Oh God, that's a pretty ignorant statement .

Ignorant of WHAT? Self-serving pro-police propaganda?

Tell me, how CAN you tell a bad cop by sight? Is there an Android app for that? How much does it cost?

Well I guess every pit bull should be shot, every black man can't be trusted, everyone that's ever been to jail is a bad guy and obviously EVERY cop can't be good. Why you ask ( BECAUSE HOW CAN YOU TELL OTHERWISE)! I just think that it's ignorant to generalize like that.

  1. Shot? No. PETTED? Definitely not.
  2. I'm Black and I don't trust every Black person. In fact, I don't trust strangers of ANY race.
  3. "Been to jail" or "convicted of a crime against another person"? I know somebody who's "been to jail". He's an habitual thief and I was unemployed for two years because of his tanking my employer.
  4. Again, tell me how I can tell a bad cop on sight? Is there an Android app, or is it just available on Iphone?

NO good comes from me trusting the police, contrary to personal experience and observation. No harm comes from me not trusting the police apart from hurting your feelings.

My liberty, property and indeed my life trump your feelings EVERY time.

People who make generalizations tend to think in black and white and suffer from tunnel vision. A world full of shades of gray is too much for them to comprehend, so it helps them to only see in black and white, and put things into simple categories like good or bad. There is no in between, there are no exceptions. In reference to police, if a person thinks that one cop cant be trusted, a person with tunnel vision says no cops can be trusted. A person with an open mind that doesnt think in black and white realizes that some cops cant be trusted, and some can.

But thinking with an open mind like this can be threatening to some people. Hence the defense mechanism of thinking with tunnel vision.

Lol... Just over reacting a little. I don't know where your common sense comes from but I can get a pretty good judge of who I'm dealing with , within the first few seconds of an encounter.
That's not always accurate but most of the time it's spot on. I'm sorry your so jaded and hopefully our tax dollars won't be wasted on you ever needing the cops!

PS. As far as the app goes , your looking in the wrong spot. Android sucks!

"Need" them for WHAT? Some of my experiences with "needing the cops":
  1. As a child in Chicago I observed a group of White youths commit an act of vandalism. I woke my parents who called the Chicago PD. When the cops arrived and discovered that the suspects were White, they immediately terminated the "investigation" and departed.
  2. When I was in college, the wannabe "hitman" flunky of the dope dealer who lived across the hall from me in the dorm [mistakenly] thought we'd gotten him, his boss and some of their customers expelled. He threatened several of us with death. We went to the Fulton, MO PD who told us there was NOTHING they could do, but if any of us were injured or killed, they'd leap right into action. The Calloway County Sheriff told us the same thing... with the proviso that we had every right to defend ourselves, which we promptly did by issuing arms and ammunition to those who didn't have them.
  3. A little later, we observed an apparent burglary in progress in the housing area behind the dorm. We called the Fulton PD who promptly went to the wrong house, then allowed the suspect to escape in his car by merely backing away from them.
  4. Somewhere around 1990 or so, there was a very heavy storm in the Cleveland area. Driving on I-71, I saw a car by an underpass with what appeared to be a large tree limb on top of it. When I called the Cleveland PD to report it, I got the impression that I was imposing upon them in some way.
  5. A few years ago, I was driving along Lorain Ave. in Cleveland and saw a man knock another down in the middle of the street and start beating him. Stopping to tell a couple of Cleveland cops stopped a few blocks farther on, I again got the impression that I was imposing on them.
Now tell me again in what situation I could "need" them in which they'd actually be of any use... or express any interest for that matter?

Alien invasion?
Godzilla on the rampage?
Ebola outbreak?
Kimchi embargo from Korea?

Memorize:
  • Police have no legal duty to protect individuals.
  • Police have no legal liability when they fail to protect individuals.
  • Police have virtually no physical ability to protect individuals.
When your life is in danger RIGHT NOW, either protect YOURSELF, or don't get protected AT ALL.
Any claim to the contrary is a LIE.

Police don't protect individuals.
They draw chalk outlines around individuals who don't protect THEMSELVES.

So, what's the name of that Iphone app that infallibly IDs bad cops? Or is it a Windows phone app?

it seems our police are being militarized for sure and i would think most use excessive force as well anymore they are paid to protect the crown interests they used to be called 'peace officers' not they are 'law enforcement' who enforce draconian laws for the most part as most inmates in our prison systems are minor non violent drug offenders........
sad but true

and you wont see them arresting bush cheney or any other high ranked official for their crimes either unless the crown has no use for them anymore for sure

That is not a bad idea at all...there is an app for speed traps and such. Why not make an app where users get to put in the first and/or last name and/or badge number and a short review (good or bad). Then, during a stop, the tech savvy can say, "One sec, I'm going to run a background check on you." See if he has a past of kindness or rudeness with the public he serves. This could even go out to the fire and EMS side, for quality assurance.

Anyone know a good software engineer? We could call the app Badge 411.
