Wheelguns Are there any fans still out there?

I own and appreciate Semis, but I have a love affair with revolvers. For target shooting, for woods carry, for bedside table defense guns, I think they can't be beat. How many other 'old timers' are there out there besides me? What wheelguns do you own or wish to own? What is your favorite caliber for defense, hunting, plinking, varminting with revolvers?

First pistol I ever shot was a 1911 when I was 18 in the Corps.
Have always had semi-auto's untill recently.
I too became interested in revolvers. I have 4 now, & will have
another soon.
I prefer to carry a semi-auto, just for the added capacity.

I still own a 1911 and will always own at least one. Great guns. I carry an Officers .45 whenever I go somewhere where I feel the need to go heeled with authority.
When it comes to actual shooting though, I love my S&W 357 6 inch Classic Hunter Model 686. Anyone who has ever tried it fell in love and tried to buy it from me. It is a natural shooter, with the best trigger you could ever ask for, with a natural 'pointing' and roll back on recoil that you just don't get from any semi.

I'm also a fan of revolver's...I'm seriously considering the Ruger LCR as my next purchase.

Currently my favorite revolver is my Colt King Cobra (357 magnum) -w- 6" barrel in blued steel.

The revolver that I 'wish' I owned is my uncle's Colt Python (357 magnum) -w- 6" barrel in royal blued steel.
He purchased it brand new back in the day and now he keep's it wrapped up in a large tube sock of all places...

my bedside table defense is a Taurus snubby .38 5 shot, with 129 grain Hydro-shok +p loads. Effective, and foolproof for that type of situation, of half awake half asleep mode.

The Colt Python is still the cadillac of all revolvers, although no better than my 686 S&W in function. I had an 8 inch Colt Anaconda.44 Mag for a while, but I sold it (sigh) because I never shoot 44s. Sold my Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 also. Man, if only I could go back in time and un-sell ALL guns I ever sold. lol

I am most assuredly a major fan of wheel guns. I will take one for personal defense over any semi-auto any day. My personal favorite carry gun is the Detective Special or the Agent by Colt. My favorite caliber overall is the .45 Colt. I am also a big fan of the .41 Long Colt and then the .32 WCF. There aren't really any revolvers or calibers that I wouldn't want to own. I like my K-15 in .22 LR very much also. I am quite disappointed that so few people seem to carry revolvers any more and the resulting dearth of holsters and accessories.

I hear you. I live in Rural New Hampshire and don't need to be concerned with Chicago gangs or other such nutcases, and my favorite carry gun is a little NAA 22 Mag mini revolver. I have not found it's equal yet in convenience. Literally throw it in your shorts pocket. ...and i can hit a coffee can every time at 10 paces with it. When I go for further excursions than just walking the dog I take my Taurus .38 snubby usually. My 1911 .45 normally stays in a hidden spot near my living room easy chair where I can access it if need be. I love it, but am too lazy to strap on a belt every time I go out.
As for caliber preference, mine is the .357, although i am a fan of the 45 long colt also. FOr power, I wish the .41 mag had kept it's popularity. I love the versatility of shooting .38's all day with my .357, then loading up with serious ammo for defense. And with my S&W I can hit a 5 inch clay target on a sand bank at 100 yards, off hand, with light 38's, almost every shot. (when I am in practice) I can't begin to do that with any Semi I have ever shot, including a Gold Cup.

I was late to the revolver world but got addicted to them fairly quickly about three years ago. I regularly shoot three Pythons, several S & W L- and N-frames, a couple of SP-101s, and two Dan Wesson 15-2s (one full lug, one part lug), each with the 4-barrel pistol pack.

Ok, now you're just making me jealous. lol

I just picked up 2 CA Bulldogs in 44 special. One is a 3 inch Classic and the other is a 2 and a half inch dao. I prefer the 38 special for plinking and punching holes in paper but the Bulldogs will be defensive weapons. The Classic is my nightstand gun and the dao will be used for winter carry.

I generally carry the modern day semi, but I do have a snubbie .38.

I love the thing and it is dead nutz.

I keep it in the house and do take to the range when feeling nostalgic, but with 5 in the wheel, I tend to lean toward my .40 with 15+1.

Like wolf, I prefer semis and own many more of them than I do revolvers however, wheel guns have their place and there are something's that just can be beat with them. I carry an M&P 340, .357 as a BUG.

I certainly own semi-autos. I carried an original 1911 (made 1917) in the service. I own a Detonics which I do carry occasionally. I lived 45 years on Long Island, New York, only 15 miles from the NYC line. I am retired from law enforcement, was chief investigator for Wells Fargo for the metropolitan New York area and had my own private investigator's license. I never felt any need for high capacity firearms. The chances of someone actually having even 6 much less more aggressors at one time is infinitesimal. One of the assignments I had for Wells Fargo was guarding the family of the Shah of Iran after our government dumped him. It was the only time I ever carried a semi-auto for work. It was a Browning High Power and was one of three guns I carried at the same time on that specific assignment. I only need one round per assailant and will never have 14 assailants unless the military starts taking in seniors. Wheel guns don't jam, don't need two hands to clear them and digest any shape bullet one puts into them without complaint. My father was a career soldier and ended up with 3 1911A1's. He never carried them. He had a Colt New Service in .45 Colt and my mother gave him a S&W .38/.44 for a gift. They were the only guns he ever carried. Maybe that is where I got my preference for revolvers. I do prefer semi-autos for .22 competition. Other than that wheelguns are where I'll always be.

I like revolvers, always have. I seem to shoot better with them than I do with semi autos, and I have no way to explain that!

The 38 special is the favorite among the gangsta class. If its good enough for them it is good enough for me. I have 3 38 specials an 2 32 h&r's. My daughter carries a 38 and the wife carries a 32. We have a collection of semis as well but the revolvers are pretty easy to use and I must confess...they are a hoot to shoot.

There is nothing at all wrong, and lots right with .38SP +P as a SD round even though the conspicuously macho "more power is always better despite the recoil that prevents you from getting your sights back on target" crowd likes to trash anything below .45ACP.

I'm not an "old timer" but, I still love wheel guns! Always have... I currently own six revolvers, four .38s and two .22s. I would love to have more but y'know... other priorities and such. I'm a huge fan of .38Spl, for many reasons and uses. I've wanted to pick up a Charter Arms Bulldog .44Spl... maybe Xmas or next B-day, IDK. I feel that for 99% of defensive purposes, a revolver can handle them all... as long as you practice accordingly.

Collection: 4" bbl S&W Model 15; 4" bbl Rossi 851; 2" bbl Taurus Ultralite; 2" bbl Armscor M206; (2) 1 1/4" bbl NAA Minis

I don't profess to have expert knowledge about this, but I think I shoot a revolver better because it is a more natural fit (most of them are anyway) than a semi, and they are solid rather than spring loaded. They roll back straight and come back down straight, rather than having the 'mousetrap' effect of a slide with that slight side motion from ejecting cases as well. This is a somewhat subtle difference between the two, but definite. I have switched back and forth often either at the range or just out back in the yard plinking at cans, and there is no question about it. I can hit what I need to with semi's just fine, but revolvers just give me the right 'feel' and confidence to hit that much better, and at further distances. Makes for fun shooting.
Several times I have been mocked in fun jesting, by semi shooters, and when they try my S&W 686 they are generally awestruck at how easy it is to shoot, and how it just seems to 'aim itself' effortlessly. Plus, the trigger in SA mode is the best they have ever experienced. ...and more than one has gone out and bought a wheelgun thereafter.
