I use Federal HST LEO 147g 9mm +P, Hornady Critical Duty 135g 9 mm +P,
Golden Sabre LEO Bonded 147g +P in my 9mm carry guns. I find that the heavier bullets tend to give more control of muzzel flip than lighter bullets. And the added mass translates into more knock down power.

GUN CARRYING AMERICAN PATRIOT!!!!

I use either Hornady Critical Defense or Barnes Tac-X defensive ammo in the Bersa Thunder .380 that I carry. If I carry my Thunder .32 then I have FMJ ball ammo, usually FIOCCHI. I'm not a big caliber person, I have owned .357/.38 and .45 but now for carry the highest caliber I would use is a .38 or 9mm and as of now all I own are my .380 and .32 and I feel safe with them.

:triniti:

I have Golden Saber 185gr +p in my M&P and Hornady Critical Defence in my FNS. The Golden saber is something else....it would put a hurting on the recipient of such a nice round and nice tingle in the hands of the shooter!

I use Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P SB in my Ruger SR9c and Winchester PDX1 155gr in my Ruger SR40. Both rounds are law enforcement issued and proven. It is all by personal preference and what performs best in your firearm. Contact the manufacturer of the firearm and the ammunition to see what their recommendations are.

I use Hornaday's Critical Defense in my Ruger LCP, LC9s, & SR1911, and in my Rem. 1911 R1. My gun nut brother-in-law recommended it, and from what I've read and seen, it looks like a pretty wicked load; though, the Hornaday Zombie Max looks like it might do a little more damage than the Critical Defense. But, I'm not about to change now; it would cost too much to make the switch and I'm not sure the additional damage vs cost would warrant the switch. I think I have a standard Winchester ball in my Ruger SR22 and H & R 929.

bo_leggs, Zombie Max and Critical Defense are one in the same except the change of color from Red to Zombie Green of the tip cap. Make it more appealing to the Zombie Preppers and my 16 year old...

For 9mm: Hornady 115grn. Critical Defense (G26) (I wish Winchester made PDX-1 for this that wasn't +P, I'd sure change)
For 40/ S&W: Winchester 165grn. PDX-1 (Sig Equinox P229) (thinking of going with a 180grn. PDX-1 if I can find them)
For 45ACP: Speer Gold Dot JHP 230grn (Sig P220 Tactical) (If I didn't already have a but load of this, I'd go with Winchester PDX-1 230grn)

In my Taurus® Mdl 617SS2 357 Magnum - Fiocchi® 357 Mag 158gr XTP™; BUG: Taurus® Mdl 85SS2UL 38 Special - Buffalo Bore® Standard Pressure 38 Special 158gr LSWCHCGC.

I like Federal Hydra-shock. I have rebuilt and installed many machines for Federal Cartridge and have been in their plant many times. I have talked to the people there about the specs and how much work they put into this chuck of lead and copper. Not saying they are the best but I just feel that I know the people who make this ammo the best.

But I was buying what ever I could find for a while. Some I would not have bought if the shelves were stocked full. But they will be better than spit balls if and when SHTF!!!

Here is a You Tube link for .40 S&W 135 grain Hydra-Shock.

I bought some Winchester Ranger 9mm 127gr T +P+ today for my Glock 19 that I will be trying this week and I think that I might start using this along with the Gold Dot +P.

When I first got into owning and carrying firearms, I bought the first thing that I came across (rookie habit?), which was Federal Hydra-Shok. At the time, my load of choice was 45ACP, so the 230gr flavor was it. As I bought into 9mm, I also transitioned to 230gr (+P) and 124gr (+P) HST loadings. I have since consolidated to 9mm, so the 230gr are now long gone. I've always liked the way HST handles, and it's been dead-on-nuts reliable for me (hundreds of rounds without a single malfunction... feeds, fires, and ejects 100%) in multiple guns (Springfields, Rugers, and Glocks). My CCW of choice (until last week) was a Glock 19 loaded with the 124gr (+P) loading.

I, like many others, have made a hobby out of ammunition and ballistics, in addition to firearms in general, as a gun owner. The heavy-for-caliber loads seem to perform really well in the newer loads, and I've been trying to track down the 147gr HST for some time. I haven't been able to come by any of this stuff at all in the past year... maybe I've just been slow on the click, but I have some on back-order from Streicher's (who says Federal stuff can take up to a year to get in at this point). Foolishly, I put in an order last year and cancelled it, then placed another order in February because the retained prices online were still pretty good, and I happened upon a free shipping deal (I think it was a V-day special), so I figured, what the hell. When I called about an ETA, he asked when I ordered it, and when I replied February, he asked this year or last year (yeahh... loooooong wait times. I guess). I've been faithfully checking SGAmmo.com, who seems to have the standard pressure 124gr in stock, along with a bunch of Gold Dots at times, but the 147gr has been elusive. I also passed on a recent stock of Winchester Ranger Bonded 147gr (ZQ4364)... mixed reviews, a major agency recall notice, as well as questionable "Z" markings (which are either factory seconds or just unissued agency overruns... depending on who you ask), had all fingers pointing to a pass.

I did manage to order and receive some standard pressure 147gr HST from bulkammo.com, who I think sold out of their stock in one-day. It was there all of a sudden, I ordered some, and then it was gone. They had a decent number available for order, too. So, needless to say, I'm now carrying loaded with 147gr HST and the 124gr has been put on the back burner for the if-and-when. Here's to hoping they get more in, because their pricing was pretty good (in today's market) for the 50rd LE boxes, and who knows when my order from Streicher's will ever make it here.

For all of the semiautos, 9mm, 40 and 45, I use Federal HST. However I do have a few boxes of Winchester PDX1 and Speer Gold Dot here and there. I even have some boxes of the old original 45 ACP Federal Hydra-Shok ammo still lying around before they renamed it to HST (Hydra-Shok Technology). For the 357s, I use Remington 125gr JHP.

Does anyone actually know what the acronym "HST" stands for? I've heard Hydra-Shok Technology, Hydra-Shok Two, Hi-Shok Two... heard that it's more closely related to Hi than Hydra. Dunno. All I know is I like it.

I always thought it was Hydra-Shok Technology and that Federal had discontinued the Hydra-Shok when they marketed the HST. But I see from their web site that they still market both, so I think I was wrong. Of the remaining two, I'd lean toward the Hydra-Shok Two because the Hi-Shok doesn't have a center post like the Hydra-Shok, and the HST does.
