What's up with Florida's carry permit reciprocity?

I have a Wisconsin CC Permit and I can understand Wisconsin hasn't gotten around to reciprocation with Florida yet due to the fact that our CC is so new. However I also have a Utah non resident Permit. But according to the reciprocation map, Florida only recognizes Utah's permit if your a resident of Utah. Why doesn't Florida recognize Utah's non resident permit? I had to go thru the same training, finger print card, passport type photo, and background check just like any Utah resident would need too do. I don't understand why Florida will not recognize a non resident Utah Permit. Anybody have any insight on this?

Non resident licenses are meant to allow a non resident the ability to carry within that state of issuance.

Things like that are strange. I have an S.C. Resident permit. Florida recognizes it. But Ga., Al. Ms. doesn't so I had to also get a UTAH permit (non-resident) to carry in those states too.

Or you can get one from Florida. Fla non-resident is also good in GA, MS, and AL.

I think (and could be wrong) it's mainly money. FL wants you to get a FL non-resident permit from them.

Maybe money, maybe politics and maybe just playground bickering ("mine is bigger than yours...") type of thing. If you look at what the states say it is along the lines of the other state having simular standards to what they have - not always true but that is what they say. Minnesota where I live for example does not do prints or pictures which I am sure impacts some states. We do however have a live fire requirement which helps in some others. Iowa recognizes everyone so that probably helped them get a bunch, for example North Dakota which MN does not have. All of this comes down to the fact that we need a national carry deal, much the same as your drivers license. I have Utah so I could go to N. Dakota and at the time (we now have it) Wyoming. In my classes we promote the Florida one since they will accept the class you took in your state as long as you also send in picture and prints. They also are a seven year deal (which is why Nevada dropped them). As for the Wisconsin exclusion, that surprised me too. Might be as simple as Wisconsin not taking them into their little club, might be the watered down training requirement Wisconsin has (an entirely different thread for this) or whatever. The bottom line is is you want to carry in a state that you don't have it might be worth the investment. ..... just a thought.

In FL's case, I would also say it's money. FL, one of the largest issuers of non-resident permits, doesn't honor any non-resident permit. Hypocrisy?

With the rest of them...CO, ME, MI, NH, and SC....each only honor resident permits....but CO, MI, and SC* don't issue non-resident permits so it's not a money issue with them.

I think his main grip though was FL will honor a UT permit if you are a resident of UT, but will not a UT permit if you are not a resident of UT.

There are actually a few states that do not honor non-resident permits. Funny thing...all of those states sell, I mean offer, their own non-resident permit.

Non-resident permits are for people who can't get a permit in their own commie state but would like to carry in another state (i.e. A NJ resident that travels to Utah, etc.). Florida has their own non-res permit and I guess they figure there's no reason to honor a different non-res permit.

As somebody pointed out, Florida (like most states) loves their money. Even active Florida LEOs have to get a permit if they want to avoid the waiting period when buying a gun.
